My partner and I had a bewildering bad experience here. We had discussed perhaps receiving some plastic for wrapping a piece of baggage of ours and when we saw a roll of plastic in the hallway next to our baggage, we took it.

Apparently this was a misunderstanding on our part, and the proprietor was understandably unhappy that we took her plastic. She then however grossly overreacted in our view. She proceeded to kick us out of the hostel immediately (which we learned about on 10 pm on a heavily rainy night), went into our locked room, made a big deal of a flag we'd hung from the ceiling, and changed the door lock code so we were locked out from our stuff.

Also we noticed that there are a lot of rules about how guests have to behave, like not wearing shoes into the room or locking the shared toilet after use.

While the positive reviews seems to indicate that the service offered at this price point is of help to many people, I think people should be aware that this is a hostel run by a single person who has strict expectations on how guests behave and who does not hesitate to enforce them.

Yvette seems to be a nice host, but later on, I realized that she does, constantly sets rules and treats adults like small children. I don't understand why we paid for the service but we have to do all the detailed cleaning as she'd texted us and complained how dirty the room is even though it was already like that. I checked in the room and the floor was dirty and sticky, you can feel sand and dirt as you walk into the room. Towels smelled bad and musty so I had to ask for another one. There was no floor mat in the bathroom so the floor was alway wet and sticky and dirty. I have no problem sharing the bathroom/ toilet but it smells very bad because she asked to lock the room at all time after using and there is no ventilation in the toilet room (shower room and toilet are in different rooms but they are next to each other).

I noticed that she has had created 2 accounts for her hotel on Google so people can not see the real and negative feedbacks about the service. 1 is La Sienna and the new one is La Sienna Hotel. Please read the reviews from both websites as they are all true and I have the same experience (she also only responds to people who complained and allegedly 'exposed' their 'bad behaviors').

Tuve una gran experiencia en este hostal. Es una casa antigua bien preparada para alojamientos cortos. Es limpia y de habitaciones amplias. La zona de Harlem es segura y silenciosa, además está cercana al metro y a las estaciones de bus.

Buenas atenciones, Ivette es encantadora y muy buena anfitriona, recomiendo el hotel está bien ubicado y es muy limpio, sin duda volvería de nuevo.

La Sienna is a fantastic hostel in a great location at an unreasonably great price. If you're expecting a pampering hotel, you will be disappointed. But, if you're looking for a clean and friendly hostel that immerses you in the rich history of Harlem, this is exactly where you want to be. The rooms and shared bathrooms/showers/kitchen are all kept very clean. The building itself is over 100 years old and is in great shape. The host Yvette clearly cares deeply for the building that is both her home and business. We booked a shared double bed on the third floor which treated us to comfortable room with a beautiful window view. We were a short walk from the north end of Central Park, Colombia University, the Apollo Theatre, and other popular attractions.

Yvette ist eine wundervolle Gastgeberin. Das Haus ist alt, aber gepflegt. Das Zimmer ist sehr schön eingerichtet und das Badezimmer ist hell und sauber. Das Bett ist sehr bequem und ich konnte gut schlafen. Es ist ruhig nachts.
Das einzige Problem war, dass bei Google die falsche Adresse angegeben war.

I had a wonderful stay at La Sienna during my trip to NYC. This beautiful brownstone is an older building but well kept and clean, and it has a lot of character. La Sienna is in a great location very close to 125th St., which has plenty of stores and restaurants if you want to stay in Harlem, but there are also great transit options if you want to visit other parts of the city.

Yvette was a wonderful host! She assisted me with carrying my luggage to/from the third floor for my arrival and my departure, which was greatly appreciated. She was also very friendly and gave a lot of good recommendations for restaurants to check out in Harlem.

Nous avons adoré notre séjour d’une semaine à La Sienna. Yvette est une hôtesse formidable. Elle est à l’écoute de nos besoins, nous donne plusieurs recommandations des environs et mets à notre disposition plusieurs petites attentions (thé, café, chocolat chaud, biscuits, gruau, etc.).
Les chambres sont simples et propres. La salle de bain est spacieuse et bien entretenue. La cuisinette nous permets de se préparer des petits repas.
La clientèle était très agréable! Plusieurs européens très sympathiques :)

Nous nous sentions comme à la maison. C’était confortable, propre, simple et très bien situé! Le métro était à 5min de marche de l’hébergement. Nous pouvions traverser Central Park du Nord au Sud en 5min avec la ligne express de métro.

Nous reviendrons ici certainement lors de prochaines vacances à New York! Nous allons en parler à nos amis et familles.

Yvette es encantadora, nos trató genial y la habitación tiene todo lo que necesitas para estar a gusto. Es una casa antigua pero está bien mantenida y limpia ☺️

We had a great stay here. Yvette was very nice and accommodating. We slept very well here - it was quiet and couldn’t hear other guests. The place was also very reasonably priced

Yvette is a wonderful host and the house is well furnished and organised. There are treats like cookies, coffee and oatmeal offered and everyone has an own spot in fridge and storage.

Ne vous fiez pas à votre première impression. Hotel pur jus avec chambre avec belle menuiserie. Spacieuse, bien équipée, cuisine très pratique. Bien situé à Harlem. A souligner, la gentillesse d'Yvette !

No se confíen de las calificaciones de este lugar en las apps de viajeros , suele bloquear a las persona con las q tiene inconveniente para así no permitirle poner una reseña, lean muy bien todas las reseñas negativas y podrán notar que coinciden unas con otras, si no quieres arrepentirte es mejor que busques otro lugar

Yvette es una persona que carece de empatía y respeto por las personas. Infortunadamente no leí los comentarios anteriores a mi reserva. No recomiendo alojarse allí. Mi primera vez en New York: Al llegar al aeropuerto no logré obtener una sim card por lo que debí ir comunicándome vía wifi en cada estación de parada del tren. Le
Iba informando mi recorrido. Yvette me pidió no utilizar el timbre cuando llegara. Al llegar a la última parada le escribí que había llegado y estaba caminando hacia el lugar de hospedaje. Al llegar no había nadie esperándome, toqué la puerta y nadie salió, no tenía como llamarla y eran las 1:30 am. Me di cuenta que la puerta estaba abierta y asumí que la había dejado abierta para que pudiera ingresar sin tocar el timbre. Pregunte si había alguien y nadie respondió, subí al 2 piso buscando alguna recepción y no había. Me di cuenta que una habitación estaba arreglada y abierta (asumí nuevamente que era para mi), baje al primer piso y no había nadie. A esa hora y en la zona decidí ingresar a la habitación y tratar de descansar, finalmente mi targeta de crédito estaba registrada y ya se había debitado un anticipo. A las 6 am me tocó la puerta de manera agresiva y gritándome todo tipo de palabras, por haber utilizado la habitación, al punto que me amenazó de golpearme. Le dije que le podía pagar las 3 noches y aún así me iba. Su respuesta fue que no quería mi cochino dinero. Tomó mis pertenencias y las tiró fuera de la habitación y me gritó insistentemente que me retirara. Me tiró las pertenencias a la calle y no paraba de gritar todo tipo de palabras. Sentí que mi vida estaba en peligro. Ha sido la peor experiencia que he tenido hasta hoy en mis viajes. A la fecha y hora mi reloj se quedó allá (costo actual del reloj es de 400 USD). Nuevamente le pido que si hay algún saldo por debitar lo solucionemos y me reintegre mi reloj. No usen este servicio, las calificaciones no son acordes a la realidad.
