C'est magnifique !

Nous avons passé un agréable moment à visiter les jardins, à déjeuner au restaurant et à suivre une visite guidée de la maison par un guide qui nous a raconté tant d'histoires intéressantes. La maison est magnifique, bien qu'il soit interdit de prendre des photos. L'histoire du premier propriétaire, Joseph Jefferson, qui travaillait dans un théâtre ambulant et jouait le rôle de Rip Van Winkle, est fascinante. L'histoire de Lake Peigneur est encore plus fascinante ! Etonnante même. Il y a un court métrage sur le sujet dans le théâtre qui passe en boucle.
Bien qu'il n'y ait pas de panneaux sur les belles plantes du jardin, nous avons utilisé une application (dans mon cas Google Lens) pour savoir ce qu'elles étaient et elles ont été facilement identifiées.
Le restaurant vaut vraiment la peine d'être visité ! Les sandwichs sont énormes, mais il est parfois possible d'en acheter un demi ou un quart, et un quart me convenait parfaitement ! Vous pouvez également y prendre du thé chaud et si vous le demandez, on vous donnera un pot d'eau chaude et une bonne sélection de sachets de thé de différentes variétés de thé noir et d'herbes. J'ai adoré !
Bien sûr, comme nous sommes en Louisiane, tout le monde est très amical et très serviable.

Une beauté esthétique avec 35 paons qui se promènent dans la propriété. La crèche, la vue sur le lac, le cottage, le cacatoès parlant font que cet endroit vaut la peine d'être visité. Nous n'avons pas essayé le café et la boutique, mais la décoration semble agréable. Mon bébé de 8 mois et ma famille ont beaucoup apprécié. Le prix du billet est raisonnable.

Nous avons apprécié notre visite, même si, à cette époque de l'année, les jardins n'étaient pas en pleine floraison. Le terrain était vraiment magnifique et il y avait beaucoup d'endroits uniques dans les jardins, mais le plan n'est pas à l'échelle et rien n'est clairement étiqueté. Il était donc difficile de naviguer et de savoir où nous nous trouvions à tout moment. La visite de la maison était intéressante, mais on ne voyait que le premier étage, ce qui était décevant. Nous n'avons pas mangé au café car il était bondé et nous n'avons pas séjourné dans la propriété, mais il semble qu'ils exploitent un bed and breakfast dans les anciens quartiers des domestiques.

Excellente nourriture au café ; le paysage est magnifique, le personnel est très amical et courtois. Je recommande vivement cet endroit.

un endroit magnifique et charmant pour se marier, vraiment reconnaissant pour toute la gentillesse et l'assistance dans l'organisation de notre journée, même si ce n'était qu'une petite cérémonie :) Le cottage de Cook valait vraiment la peine d'être visité

Cette propriété fonctionne davantage comme un domaine atmosphérique que comme un jardin botanique traditionnel. Bien qu'on y trouve de beaux paons et un personnel sympathique, l'absence d'étiquettes sur les plantes en limite la valeur éducative. La zone du gouffre près du café offre un endroit paisible pour la lecture ou la contemplation. Le site semble attirer les visiteurs principalement pour son café et ses bâtiments historiques plutôt que pour l'exploration botanique. Bien que charmant, il peut décevoir ceux qui s'attendent à un jardin botanique conventionnel en termes d'aménagement et d'activités éducatives.

Un endroit si charmant pour passer une matinée ou un après-midi ! Mon partenaire et moi sommes toujours à la recherche de petites destinations locales pour faire des "excursions pour adultes" pendant que nos enfants sont à l'école, et ce joyau correspondait parfaitement à ce que nous recherchions. Nous nous sommes promenés sur le terrain, avons fait la visite de la maison et avons mangé au café, et c'était tout simplement DÉLICIEUX. La dame qui s'occupait de la boutique de souvenirs avait la meilleure énergie d'hospitalité du sud que j'ai jamais rencontrée dans ma vie, et le guide de la visite de la maison était un vrai boute-en-train. Je recommande vivement une excursion d'une journée ici !

Jolis jardins et histoire. La brève visite de la maison était gratuite, mais peu inspirée et le guide nous a demandé directement un pourboire à la fin, ce qui nous a semblé maladroit et inapproprié.

J'ai visité les jardins à plusieurs reprises et c'est très beau. J'adore voir les paons. Si vous passez dans la région, n'hésitez pas à aller voir. Essayez aussi les plats du Café Jefferson, vous ne serez pas déçus

Un endroit magnifique pour un mariage ! Les cabines sont également parfaites pour passer la nuit.
Le service de restauration L'équipe de nettoyage était un peu impolie mais je n'ai pas laissé cela gâcher mon expérience.

Magnifiques jardins. Ambiance très relaxante. Il ne faut pas passer à côté de cet endroit.

Beautiful amazing place. Rich in history and some of the best kept gardens I have ever seen.

Be sure to stop at Rips Rookery before you reach the main gate. It's free to walk around the lake. The nesting is of course seasonal. We saw two large alligators which were swimming in the lake. There were plenty of Rosette Spoonbills and Snowy Egrets, as this was early April.

Had a lovely stroll through this remarkable place. So much beauty and history, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Yes, Rip Van Winkle is a beautiful place. I’ll start off that way. But today we went to take my little sisters senior pictures and were met with a very rude, highly offensive and inappropriate worker there. Admittedly, we were not informed of the photography rules that are set in place at Rip Van Winkle, but the way we were corrected today was absolutely disgusting. As a family not from New Iberia, we had heard of how beautiful this place was and wanted to take some pictures there for my sister’s senior session. We did not realize we had to call ahead in advance and we do know that in hindsight that may have been a wise option. When we arrived, gates were open, signs saying “welcome” and “open 7 days a week, 9-5pm” and no where were there signs saying “private property”, “no unapproved photography” or “no photography, there is a wedding today”. As we walked around trying to decide which beautiful scenery to take pictures near, a short haired, raspy voiced, older lady came RUNNING out, SCREAMING at us to get off the property and SCREAMING that we cannot take photos. Shocked and embarrassed, we obeyed her rude requests and walked down to the parking lot immediately. She continued to scream at us across the yard, extremely rudely to us saying “This is private property, no photography”. We had not once seen any indication that Rip Van Winkle was private property, nor any indication that we could not take photos. To our knowledge this was a beautiful garden open to the public from 9am-5pm per their signs out front. The impolite worker then said that we cannot take any photos due to a wedding taking place. It was then she decided to finally give us reasoning to her yelling. Mind you, there was also no indication of a wedding near where we were as we were not even close to the venue and we also saw 5 other families dressed in work clothes and casual clothing taking pictures with their kids and walking about the gardens. We told the lady we were sorry and had not known, and she scoffed at us and continued to shoo us into the parking lot. We stood up for ourselves saying “We are sorry , but we do think you could have said it nicer”. She said “You can’t just walk onto private property.” As to which we replied “we were unaware, but you could have said it nicer.” She rolled her eyes and started walking away. My mom looked over to me and said “Wow, that was so odd.” And the lady then scoffed once again and said “Yeah, wow, that’s right, wow.” After that, we went to our car and drove away. I am still in disbelief with the encounter we had with that lady. I wish I would’ve gotten her name as I believe she needs a talking to about how to treat guests. We were more than willing to comply with all rules, had we been informed properly. I’m not sure I would recommend going to this place without stalking their web page, digging deep into media, or studying each and every rule at Rip Van Winkle, because it seems that is what you must do or you will get screamed at across the garden from their rude employee. If there is a manager or owner that needs me to specifically describe this woman to you, it would be my pleasure. That was the most unpleasant woman I have ever encountered in a professional establishment. I truly hope she does not get away with treating other guests this way. People like her are what make beautiful places like Rip Van Winkle lose money and wither away because it leaves such a bad taste in guests mouths.

Such a peaceful and beautiful place! Lots of improvement going on at the site right now. We strolled through the gardens, greeted the peacocks and enjoyed all the enormous oaks with Spanish moss. Don't miss the photos displayed at the gift shop & sign on the lake shore to learn the fascinating history of the lake! It will blow your mind. The gift shop has a lot to offer as well.

Would be beautiful to visit when everything is in bloom.

Paradise

This place is absolutely beautiful!! Our stay was on September 1, 2023. From the Grounds to the Peacocks to the People... I can not say enough great things about the place! We stayed one night in Cooks Cottage and it was perfect. We fell in love from the moment we drove onto the grounds. This place has so much beauty and peace in it. And once you go into the gift shop (office/headquarters) & talk to the staff you'll experience even more beauty, because they are super friendly and welcoming.
I spoke with Miss. Rachel a few times a we booked our absolutely last minute stay, judt 2days before. We were very fortunate that they even had an opening!! Anyways once we arrived Miss Rachel remembered me and was just as friendly as she was over the phone. Oh & the lady who did our house tuor was absolutely wonderful! Oh & the food at Jefferson Cafe was delicious!!
I look forward to returning, when the Peacocks have their long beautiful feathers- even though we did find lots of beautiful feathers, & I recommend this place to everyone.

October 5th, pouring rain as we entered the cafe. Warmly greeted with menus in hand seated by the window lake view the food was
absolutely delicious my crabmeat gratin perfectly cooked. This is the third year of visiting the cafe and will not be the last. Our servers first day was a tribute to her short training but her attention when needed was superb.
Highly recommended would be an understatement.

The gardens are beautiful...peaceful and quiet..a nice getaway...the cafe has wonderful food...we enjoyed it all...

I didn’t get to go tour yet I usually have handicap people with me that cannot do the walking can’t wait to go try it another time

I was very excited to come and take a look at this place, but all of it was ruined from the moment I initially walked in by the lady on post at the gift shop. My family and I were looking at the items at the gift shop. My eldest 10yr old startled my three year old, causing her to let out a scream. I barely got two words out of me to tell her to keep quiet when this lady at the front passive aggressively said "Hey!! No screaming in the gift shop". I understand if it had been the second or third time of them screaming, but I didn't even get a chance to correct my own child the first and only time they did it before she decided to blurt out that comment in such a rude manner. After said sour experience, the garden and Cafe itself are very very beautiful to go see and explore.
