Came here with a vendor and oh my goodness this place is amazing. The chef lets the ingredients speak for themselves. Great selection of wine with an awesome atmosphere. I will be coming back to this spot the next time I'm in the city. The only thing I will ding them on is the service could have been more on point.

--The Oldest Italian Restaurant in America--

This place has the old-fashioned 1960's homey vibes you're looking for in an Italian restaurant, just absolutely delightful and great for a night out. When you walk in, you are greeted with decorum and interior design of an old-age Italian Trattoria, plucked right from Rome or Florence. The servers are very courteous and friendly as well. The menu is about as classic as it gets, which could be a good thing or bad thing (all your Italian and Italian-American favorites are here, but there is not much reinvention or creativity in the menu). Some of my personal favorite items I tried were the Pesto pasta, as well as the Risotto alla Milanese (though would've prefered if the Risotto came with the Milanese Veal too). The fried calamari was also a classic and very tasty. Overall I think it's a great place, a little on the pricey side but great for a night out in SF North Beach.

The restaurant seems solid and cozy :) the waiter was friendly and professional. He is patient to our questions. The food is okay. We went during the restaurant week and I got the $45 menu. The food is quite on the salty side. The salad is a bit too vinegary than what I liked. The portion is big though! And they cut the cake for our birthday party :)

One of the most hospitable, welcoming, authentic Italian restaurants I have ever been to. The wait staff were very attentive and helpful with their recommendations. the ambiance was great, with live music. The piano player was very skilled, and I enjoyed talking music with him at the conclusion of our dinner.
The food was excellent. My tortellini were crafted brilliantly, and the lasagna was masterfully delicious. I recommend taking this culinary journey of Italian cuisine as a celebration of life, love and/or family.

I love this place. Lived here for decades and, shamefully, my first time coming here was recently. Everything was delicious and I loved the old school vibes.

Great example of old school Italian food in San Francisco. Established in 1886! Quintessential decor with long wood bar, red drapes, and fine finish carpentry throughout. Our server has worked there for 41 years!

the food alone is enough reason to make your way here. I'm talking about homemade fresh pastas, creamy rich sauces, juicy tender meats, all of it.

One of my regular spots, we sit at the bar with Eric or Watson… Lalo at the door is a welcoming and friendly host and helps liven up the place. I’ve literally seen old men passed out drunk at the bar…. This is the type of place that people live… and I think that’s because it’s so welcoming…. And the bread has some great yeast… they must source the eggs from a better supplier than the mass produced one… because their pastas and breads don’t make my nose run or give me congestion… or make my organs hurt like the breads and pastas that use the factory farmed Hormel eggs… 100 million chickens had bird flu last year, that means many eggs will be carrying the disease as well…

Anyways home made breads and pastas, deserts… I usually do the three sauce pasta medley with a salad… I like to have all the flavors…. Love pesto and the ravioli’s… cheesecake for dessert usually (if they have it) $100 for 2 people… it’s worth it, usually about 3 servings of bread… nom nom nom

I have eaten at many Italian restaurant. This is the oldest in the US and there is a reason it is still here. This was the single best meal I have had in years. Thank you for making my wife and myself’s trip to San Francisco!

We went here the first week of January and the food and service were phenomenal so we decided to take a party of 7 for a birthday on February 10th.
The waiter was nice but the food was horrid!
The clam sauce had over cooked and very gritty clams, the lasagne was just meh, and the cioppino I had was truly horrendous. Very little of the flavorless broth and the seafood was over cooked so it was rubbery. I should have mentioned it at the time but we just wanted to get out.
They were a little busy but this is still not an excuse for awful food and subpar service. I will go back one more time to see if it was an anomaly but the other couples we were with stated they would not be going back.
Bill with appetizers, drinks, and main course was about $700.
The pianist played beautifully.

It’s nice to know you can occasionally go home again and find that something you didn’t want to change has not. From appetizers to pasta everything we sampled was an oh my. Possibly the best gnocchi I’ve ever had. Their take on a escargot in a veal stock had me a little concerned but when I took the first bite my taste buds celebrated my decision to order them. Calamari was outstanding. Service was totally on point and the old school vibe takes you back to the great days of a bygone era in San Francisco’s rich history. I rate this restaurant as a must return as soon as possible and our party of 4 agreed unanimously.

This is a fun and cozy atmosphere! The food was fine. We had a reservation but still waited 15 or so minutes for a table. And then waited a bunch more once seated. The host was wonderful! He got us drinks and salads long before we saw our waiter. The waiter was fine but spent the absolute minimum amount of time with our order. We were still trying to ask him a question as he whisked away. The piano player was wonderful and it added to the cozy, jovial atmosphere.

Lovely, old-school Northern Italian restaurant that sticks to its roots and outshines the trendsters. Tables are set far enough apart that conversation is possible. Our friendly waiter made sure we were served quickly as we had a show nearby. Delicious, classic Tagliatelle Bolognese and a Caesar to share were plenty for my daughter and I. The bread served with the meal was hearty, fresh, and crusty. The pianist played a request beautifully. We will return to enjoy ourselves in a more leisurely manner another time!

booked a table at the oldest Italian restaurant in America for dinner: the Flor d’Italia has been operating since 1886. Also because it is just 300m from our hotel, so no long chilly walks????. Cosy vibe; starter of grilled prawns wrapped in pancetta with garlic and olive oil, mains of tagliatelle bolognaise and spag vongole finished with some pannecotta with a berry coulis. Experience slightly marred by a super noisy table next to us of what looked like a half dozen women in their 70s talking, drinking and laughing loudly; with one that gradually progressed through the evening from sounding like Muttly from the Wacky Races; to Harold the Hyena ????..Plus- live pianist playing all the classic standards. 8/10.

The most delicious Italian food! We got the gnocchi, lasagna, and ravioli- we did not leave an ounce of food leftover Out three desserts were as equally amazing as the main dish. The staff was so friendly, make you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. The live music was a great plus to the Italian feel! Our waitress, Marie, had the best recommendations and was extremely sweet with us!
