Overall, it’s 7/10, but does not live up to the Grand Hyatt branding for two main reasons. First, the buildings age. It was constructed likely in the 70’s and is showing age no renovation would hide. Think lower ceilings, noisier AC, small, low bath tub, etc.
Second, the renovation they completed maybe 10-15 years ago is aging. Hyatt bed is comfy as always, and the TV is large with paring to your phone. Had a comfy lounge chair, but colors don’t match photos online 100%. Lack of attention to detail is what makes this hotel fall short of the Grand Hyatt branding. Only a single light in the bathroom, when it would be nice to have floor lightings for night use, and less harsh mirror lights. The curtain controls are bedside, but lamp switches are hard to use when they could’ve been on the same panel as the blinds. The rigid mesh-like secondary curtains are the weirdest I’ve ever seen.
Union square is really sad to walk through right now. Felt 100% safe, with tourist around, but is a ghost of what it once was. Many vacancies around the entire neighborhood. I hope it can return to how it was pre-COVID.
Overall, the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero (awesome architecture, waterfront, recently renovated) or Hyatt Regency SOMA, likely best Hyatt in the city, since it’s more recently renovated and closer to BART/MUNI, is a better choice unless you are set staying immediately on Union Square.
I travel for work and spent 100+ nights at Hyatts in the past year. I've never experienced a hotel that has worse soundproofing than this. It's beyond unacceptable, you literally hear everything from the room next to you. If you're the kind of person who likes to, you know, sleep at night, you shouldn't stay at this hotel.
The staff couldn't be bothered - when I inquired about changing my room, they shrugged and claimed they're fully booked for tonight. Well, the Hyatt app begs to differ and shows availability.
The club obviously has a great view and the club staff is great. But the globalist breakfast is worse than what you get at an average Hyatt Place.
Speaking of globalist perks - there is practically zero recognition. But hey, if you're really nice they might give you a bottle of water at reception. You want a second bottle? You better justify why you need it. Unbelievable that they ration the water.
And that's a theme - it feels like they're intentionally trying to make the experience feel "cheap". Bizarre for a GH.
Long story short, this hotel should be avoided.
Ohne Frage 5 Sterne!
However, there were a couple of minor drawbacks that detracted from an otherwise positive experience. Firstly, the motion-activated night light under the nightstand proved to be a bit disruptive during the night, as it would unexpectedly turn on when I shifted in bed, causing unwanted reflections that disturbed my sleep. Additionally, while the food at the hotel restaurant was delicious, I was disappointed to find that the TV in the room did not offer Netflix access, with the only option being to use Google Cast from my own device.
On the bright side, the location of the hotel is excellent, situated very close to Union Square and conveniently adjacent to the Apple store. There are plenty of dining options and attractions within walking distance, making it an ideal base for exploring the city.
Overall, I would recommend the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square to others and would certainly consider staying here again in the future.
It was frustrating as I had a late flight the night before and was trying to sleep before my conference.
I tried to fall asleep again, and guess what happened 30 minutes after? She came back and started knocking and opening the door again. I had to get up and go tell her to leave me alone again.
Some time later around 9:30 am I was in the shower and guess who came back knocking on my door again?
I get it that you are a "modern" hotel, but having the "Do not disturb" card available would have been very helpful. I always hang it out every time after I check in.
Having window blinds would also be helpful.
Fixed a rattle in my room AC in minutes.
Great view, great Town Car, fast internet.
Bat restaurant is excellent. Bartenders are next level and the food was delicious. I'm glad we stayed in for dinner.
