Overall, we had a great experience. As two ladies traveling solo we felt very safe and comfortable at all times. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again in the near future :)
Here’s what I liked:
- spacious room with an extra out at the window where we stored suitcases (2 suitcase stands!) out of the way yet easily accessible
- extra padded cubes for additional seating beyond the desk chair
- night stand had a large pull-out shelf with built-in outlets that was perfect for storing tech as it charged
- pull-out shelving in the bathroom plus an extra ledge under the mirror for placing toiletries.
- Plenty of space for 4 people
- extra counter space behind door for the coffee maker and mini-fridge storage.
- large spacious dining room
- large conversation area off the lobby was a great space to gather before and after meals
- walking distance to the beach
- tucked away by itself between two roads and an attractive pond.
- a walking path that heads along the bluff runs right past the hotel. Access to the trail doesn’t require crossing roads
- within 1/2 mile from tasty restaurants - fast food and fine dining.
- free toothbrush and travel toothpaste! I was expecting to have to pay but this was an unexpected and much appreciated perk.
Things I would want to know about or change:
- Beds were pretty firm. I was okay for 2 nights but my hip was aching during night 3
- again with the hooks in the bathroom - 4 people, 3 hooks. The math does not work.
- they won’t send housekeeping to your room unless you request it at check-in. This wouldn’t be as big of an annoyance if I had been checking into this room personally. However, I was part of a larger group and checking in was handled by the booster club president. I doubt they asked her about housekeeping for each of the 20-ish rooms we needed.
- friendliness and approachability of staff was hit and miss.
- no coat hooks - this would be nice for beach towels or wet coats when it’s rainy
- breakfast buffet room was very small and quite hot
Original: STAY AWAY. Room is extremely old and dirty. There are hairs in the bathtub and spiders in the room. I would not recommend any one to stay here.
The location is perfect. Steps from the beach, across the street from a nice lake/park, 7 minute walk to downtown, 15 minute walk to Cannery Row, 10-15 minute drive to Carmel.
Tony at the front desk was very nice.
Their breakfast in the morning wasn't expensive and they served great food, strong coffee, and they offered a complimentary pastry with home made blueberry jam.
The bed was comfortable and the shower was really nice.
Lastly, the rooftop restaurant/bar. Although, I didn't take advantage of it, I went upstairs to take a look before I left back to Los Angeles. Stunning view of the ocean and just as charming as the hotel.
I would definitely return.
I've added three pictures (one of the lobby, two of the rooftop bar and view).

Our room was small but thoughtfully designed and cozy. Very European. Full marble bathroom with an excellent multi-nozzled shower. Yes! I’m a shower snob so loved that! There’s some traffic noise, but not unusual for most town or highway hotels. It’s on a boulevard. All other elements made up for this point. Super soft bed linens and thick plush towels. Plus no barking dogs or screaming parents at their cranky children.
Rooftop lounge was so pleasant with actual Dale Chihuily light fixtures, warm fire table and very polite bartendress.
Most unexpected and an absolute delight was the breakfast, included in the rate! The same manager, who checked us in, served us breakfast the next morning….well dressed, extremely polite, seating with white table linens, china cups, top notch service ambiance and creative menu; I selected polenta, soft cooked eggs and berries.
Excellent choice away from the tourist hub-bub. Highly reccommended.
