The bad experience started at check in with the rude check in employee. Upon learning the pool was under construction at check in, she stated, " well it was listed on the website". We said we called the reservation in and she stated we were told over the phone about the construction, which we were not and did not appreciate her demeaning attitude . We also showed the staff the Bonvoy app which does not mention the construction at this hotel. Although the pool is closed and there is obnoxious jack hammering going on at the property they still charge you a resort fee on top of parking.
The room was just okay at best and none of the lights near the bed functioned. After a long day we wanted to get some sleep and went to take some asprin and there was not one water bottle in the room , not even ONE plastic or paper cup available in the room. We had to take medication late at night by bending over the sink and filling up my hands with water like drinking out of a trough. The next morning i had to get cups out of the lobby after having a joke of a breakfast. There is not a designated dining room as, there are tabled in the lobby area and serving trays on top of the tables for a buffet like at a Hampton Inn but near as nice selection at Hampton Inn or a Best Western. Tacky for a $400 a night hotel. I went to get strawberries and there were only 4 in the bowl, what a joke.
Upon check out we brought up a few of our concerns and instead of an apology we were met with defiance basically blaming the lack of water bottles and no cups on us as if we had asked for room service, the missing items would have been noticed, this is not my job to make sure rooms a equipped with bare minimum essentials such as water or cups or fixing lights.
While having breakfast you have to listen to non stop jack hammers and construction which we were never warned about this hotel should be even be opened or make it clear when people book that is is under construction or alllow people to back out of their reservation when they find out.
Instead of an apology for no water or cups the blame was put on us for not calling. I was already in bed and didnt want to call just to be awakened by staff knocking on my door. This is a hotel, how does room service staff not know how to stock a room.
Anyway this was by far my worst Marriot experience, we were told to come back in a year and try it again, not a chance. I have much more pleasant stays at Best Western at a fourth of the cost. I was not able to post a review on the website and I learned you can only leave a review on the website if sent a review. Dont listen to me, read the multiple negative reviews from other customers. This place needs to have a hgh up GM from corporate be a secret customer and stay here.
The room we stayed in had obviously already been decorated. However, the finishing was poor - the bath tap was basically hanging off the wall, there were no batteries in the clock and one of the power sockets didn't work. All little things but they start to add up. However, the beds were comfy, there was a large TV and an ice cold fridge in the room.
The main annoyance I have with this place was the housekeeping. Out of the 5 days we were there, on 4 of these days our room still hadn't been cleaned by 4:30pm, despite the fact we were told it was daily housekeeping. We had to ask on all of these days for the room to be made up and the towels changed. This isn't great when you pay as much as you do to stay here. Whilst it's advertised that housekeeping work to 5pm, they'd clearly forgotten or intentionally missed us as it was only ever very rushed service we eventually got.
Location is excellent, right in the heat of Duval Street and all the benefits this brings. There are numerous bars and restaurants within a few seconds walk and many of the famous Key West attractions are in walking distance. There's also a pretty big car park and parking in the area is usually hard to find.
The staff were pleasant, especially given they seemed to be constantly being shouted at by people who weren't happy that the hotel is a partial building site. Michelle, the night manager, was particularly nice.
I'd be interested to see what the hotel looks like when it's finished. I'm guessing the rates will be triple what we paid by that time though! For what we paid, it was "ok". If the housekeeping had been better, I'd probably have stretched to four stars as the location was so good.
The location is great!!! The pool was out of service the days that we stayed. If that’s what you’re looking forward to, check with the hotel first. Breakfast is NOT included with the stay. Each room gets a $30 a day voucher, but breakfast is $30 per person. A breakfast for four will run you $100.
The bathroom in our room had a sliding barn door. Massive gaps that made privacy impossible. If you’re stomach starts rumbling, the lobby bathrooms is best.
Anyways - location & front door staff are the only redeeming thing about this property.
We stayed in a King Studio Suite (room 249) and it needed some serious attention.
-Patio door was not secure. Flew open in the middle of the night at 4am waking us up in a panic. Neither lock secures the door
-A bed sheet covers the window rather than a proper curtain… at this price point, go buy a proper curtain or don’t put people in this room?
-Room entry door does not close on its own causing security concerns
What really upset me was the lack of follow up - I expressed concerns and they didn’t respond.
The hotel is going through a major remodel and let me just say the rooms are clean comfortable. Lastly, the staff was impeccable. A special thanks to- Manager McKinley for all your help and front desk help Maria and Julia for your help and all the rest of the staff. I'll be back.

To check out. Everyone from front desk, bellhops, bartenders, servers, to housekeeping. They were ALL bent on making us happy, informed & comfortable.
We WILL stay here again. In the heart of Duval St.
The room itself was very small. There is not enough room to set up a workstation of any kind so if you are planning on working during your stay, this is not the place for you! The air conditioning in our room didn’t work quite as well as one might hope for in the Florida Keys and this was in March. I would hate to think about what it’s like in July.! The pool is quite small also, and it’s location in the building means that there’s only sun between about 8 AM and 2 PM.
Those are the downsides… Now for the good parts: the service in the bars and common areas was excellent! Andrea was a great bartender, and took really good care of us, housekeeping staff were also very good and responsive. The location on Duval Street is unbeatable, you can turn in either direction, and there are 1 million things to do. The bed was quite comfortable with plenty of pillows, which felt just right to us.
I want to give this place 3 1/2 stars but since that’s not an option, we’re going to go with three stars.
We read the reviews about construction and were a bit worried. And yes, small parts were still under construction, it was not a hindrance or nuisance... im guessing the work that caused those reviews is complete. Centrally located on Duvall which has its pros and cons. Service outstanding, great staff, clean hotel, and a tropical/relaxing atmosphere.
Marriott Bonvoy status is recognized.
The beds were extremely comfy! Pillows were divine!
Gladia, at the front desk, took extraordinary care of us, above and beyond, what reservation services generally do...she was our own personal Concierge!!!
I truly look forward to my return visit next month!
This Islamorada girl had a grand time at this Grand Ol' Dame!
XOXO
Andrea, the bartender was the best!! Hopefully she gets a management position, she deserves it!
