Preferí hablar de estos temas, que son los que uno puede controlar previo a tomar un tour, versus hablar de los que vimos… dado que la naturaleza es incontrolable. Afortunadamente nosotros tuvimos mucha suerte en ambos sentidos, lo que hizo que fuera una experiencia increíble.
Dicho todo esto y a pesar que no agendamos directamente con ellos, recomiendo totalmente Meru Slopes.

In short: What a fantastic trip!
Everything went well from the very start. We wanted to use a local company and cast our net to see what would come back. Kelvin at the office end of things got back to us promptly with some options. Nicely detailed offer which answered pretty much all of the basic questions. We made a few adjustments, which were easily and quickly taken care of, and all inquiries were answered literally within minutes. I tell people that the longest we waited to hear back from Kelvin was five hours, and we think it was because it was a Saturday. Maybe.
As for the safari itself, our driver guide and cook, Robert and Saleem, met us at our hotel and off we went. First stop: Tarangire NP. Within 20 minutes of arriving, we are already seeing wildlife. Elephants galore!
Robert was super friendly, flexible, and a very knowledgeable guide. He was always on the lookout for animals, and he was pretty ‘eagle eyed’ and easily spotted so much. We also liked how all the drivers from all the tour operators worked together, sharing tips and knowledge of locations with each other. Robert was also a fantastic driver; we felt very safe and comfortable despite the bouncing around – all part of the safari experience! When dropping us off at our accommodations, Robert always made sure we were actually checked in and had the room key in our hands before he left us. One night, he stayed at the same place and ate with us. Gotta love the Tanzanian hospitality!
Saleem, our cook, also did a fantastic job, feeding us a fresh hot lunch every day. We saw quite a few other tours with boxed lunches so were grateful for the delicious food Saleem prepared for us. Lots of rice, vegetable curries, chicken, chapati, pizza or chips even, fruits, and some nice coffee to finish off our meal. Amazing what he could come up with the simple facilities and equipment available to him.
We carried on towards the Serengeti, and we saw so SO much – more than we ever expected. We loved our bush camp experience where we saw a big bull elephant coming into the camp, drinking some water, and then carrying on his way. Right before our very eyes! We saw the Big 5 – two different leopards, in fact; one of them twice – and so much more. Countless different birds and smaller animals.
We would definitely recommend Meru Slopes as a safari operator when in Tanzania and would use them again if we are ever lucky enough to return to Tanzania. Please give smaller, local companies a chance instead of making the bigger companies bigger.
PS: Robert, Kelvin and Geoffery were able to get a T-shirt delivered to our hotel after the safari, so that is customer service above and beyond, if you ask me ????

I think in this kind of experiences, the staff is a key element; and I am happy to say were lucky! Our chef Yohana went beyond expectations; he knew my husband was sick, and he helped every morning and night providing extra hot water and citric fruit that were good for his condition. He cooked the most delicious meals, but I think he's attitude was the most important for us ????. Our chofer and guide was Andrew, and he was a fun and knowledgeable guy; not only took us to the best places so we could spot cheetahs, lions and other animals, but he was a great driver and that's also highly appreciated. We saw a couple of cars stuck in mud, with broken tires or others, and luckily it was not our case.
We were lucky to have a good car that even had a plug.
We had a wonderful experience, and more than the amazing fauna and nature we saw, that's something we are thankful for to Yohana and Andrew.
