But the real gem are the grounds. There are several fish ponds with koi carp and gentle waterfalls, a meandering path to the church at the top where you can light a candle for loved ones.
There is a wonderful covered terrace with comfortable seating, past the church, which offers incredible views.
Swing seats, benches and comfortable seats are dotted around the gardens where you can enjoy a book or coffee in peace.
There’s an outdoor play area for kids with toys and sand pit, plus trampoline.
Breakfast is included and is great, with good coffee.
Very nice complex and common areas, with a Zimmerman grand piano in the lobby and books of Beethoven's sonatas and Chopin's etudes
Service at dinner was attentive and good
Our room had a balcony and a view of the Vardzia caves
The bads:
The room smelled really bad, a damp and dirty smell that wouldn't go away even with ventilation (our balcony door was even opened before we arrived). It could be from the carpet or the shower drains
The shower was small and drainage was very slow. The exhaust fan was very loud. The lights are also cold white, which is an odd choice for a hotel.
You have to plug in your two bedside lamps (they're unplugged for some reason), and even with those the room is poorly lit.
The bed was squeaky and would rattle and bounce slightly as you walk around the room
