We saw the northern lights the night of our stay.
The campsite has 24/7 open self-service commodities (kitchen, laundry, showers and toilets) that you can use also it not camping there. For payment there is a POS in the main area.
6 washing machines are available, 4 of which must be payed with 8 100isk coins and 2 (on the left in the image) that can be payed also at the Post or or at the reception.
The relentless and unforgiving weather we faced on our cycling journey through Iceland was nothing short of a trial. It's in such challenging moments that we rely on the empathy and kindness of others. However, the complete lack of empathy displayed by the campsite owner and staff was a stark contrast to the harsh conditions we were enduring.
This experience serves as a powerful reminder for fellow cyclists to be cautious when choosing places to stay along their route. The way we were treated highlights the importance of finding accommodations and establishments that not only provide shelter but also show genuine concern for the well-being of travelers. Remembering this encounter can help fellow cyclists make more informed choices and seek out places that offer not only refuge from the elements but also a warm and empathetic welcome.
Washing machines, dryers, clean showers and toilets, shared kitchen, outside sinks with hot water. The landscape is not the best but we experienced beautiful Aurora mid September here.
Luz: 1500kr
A lot of washing machines and dryers BUT they need to be cleaned from time to time...
Kitchen is very slow to cook...
Much better campsites..
Best kitchen&dining room facility
We arrived in early September and reception was unstaffed. We paid online (the system was buggy and frustrating). It’s a bit of a glorified parking lot, but that’s not a big deal to us. And there’s a nice walk to the top of a hill with a fantastic viewpoint of the town.
The site has a lot of amenities, but unfortunately they’re in poor condition. Maybe because the campsite wasn’t staffed, but everything was filthy. Hair in the sinks (and a huge glob of nasty hair in one of the showers), the toilet stalls smelled atrocious and some of the locks were broken, trash was overflowing in the common areas, laundry strung up everywhere, dirty kitchen. The showers were hot, but the whole place was cluttered and messy. We had planned on doing laundry, but decided to not bother and go to a different, more peaceful campsite instead.
Overall, this campground reminded me of some of the party hostels I inadvertently stayed at while backpacking Eastern Europe. Seems like most of the guests are young and inconsiderate. We’ve stayed at other campgrounds in Iceland with too few toilets, etc. but they were all well maintained and cozy. This was just unpleasant.
