Peri peri’s ocean safari is advertised as you will see ocean creatures underwater. Sadly this is not the case at all. We saw the humpback whales and yes that is amazing! But they keep telling we will see and swim with the whale sharks and mantarays. But the only thing they are focusing on are the humpback, resulting in not swimming with the animals we came here for. It’s fine and all worth the money but at least be honest about what we are going to see and don’t promise stuff you can’t live up to. So since we didn’t see anything underwater they have this “second chance “ policy. Amazing, but getting this second chance is very very hard. It took us 7 tries! (So a whole week of checking every morning if they have place) to get a spot finally. Weird enough they had space when I said it was my first time. So I get the feeling they try to avoid giving people a real second chance. Again this is not a problem but then just don’t promise a second chance, nobody asks for it..
Overal they are very safe and professional on the boat. It’s just the expectations they need to get manage properly. Price is also fair for what you get. Just don’t expect to see much underwater. (The whole week we were there nobody that did the safari saw anything else then whales and dolphins. Also the guide said she haven’t seen any whale sharks in the time she has been there. So that’s something to think about)
Well equipped with good equipment that is properly maintained. Good dive training pool.
Hot and cold showers. Tea and coffee making facilities and free popcorn when you return from dives.
Staff are friendly, welcoming and know what they are talking about. Felt very comfortable and confident in them taking us out. My partner did two training courses with them - SSI Deep and Nitrox- and they managed it well.
The dive guiding was v good - good briefings and well managed dives. Back up guide at the rear helping those who couldn’t get down, and to take those running low on air up early. Managed some challenging situations (mask issues, newbie diver on first deep dives, sickness, and even a dislocated shoulder) VERY professionally.
Boat driver v good and in challenging conditions. You’re diving on a rib, which is not very nice actually on surface intervals when their is swell- take the staff up on their offer of sea sickness tablets, as they really work!
In between dives they serve you coffee, coconut biscuits and egg sandwiches which are v good. You also do a bit of ocean safari between dives which is nice to see stuff, and move about a bit so you aren’t bobbing around on the surface like a cork.
Of course, fabulous diving. Tofo is a Mecca for that, and we saw all sorts of amazing things on our two day diving trip.
We will dive again with peri peri when we come back to Tofo- can’t imagine a better centre.
