I really wanted to like this place and I was excited to stay here but I’m soooooooo bummed now. And I’m stuck here one more night! Maybe things were better before the flooding but they need to get this place fixed or close it as it is a health hazard. Just say no!
Definitely worth the stay but do not expect a five-star brand new
Just stop, take some pictures, and keep moving. Really seems to have fallen off a cliff since the passing of the founder in 2017, or maybe the area flooding last year.
If you do stay, expect an absolutely rancid hallway (carpet that has obviously, by the mold-smell, been flooded or leaked on or something ongoing), no TV, unusable WiFi, and a Russian Novel of "don't do this, don't do that's." They have a fireplace, but won't let you use it at night... you know, when it's cold. The cafe is closed. The lamps are broken. You can hear quiet conversations from the hallway and connecting rooms since nothing closes right. They won't even give you a tour or tell you about the history of the building without another upsell.
This is a real shame. I hope the org that runs the place can improve, as it deserves to be preserved. But for travelers on a budget looking for a warm comfortable splurge after camping... you'll get much better facilities and services up the road.
Not at all ADA compliant, and I would be worried about bringing children here.
Internet connection is provided and has nice skylights in the showers andain hotel. If you are trying to get to Death Valley, especially during this time of year when it's cooler, I would recommend the Opera House. Much much cheaper than the hotels in the valley and only about a half hour drive there.
