I enjoyed the tour but the restaurant experience was about a 2 out of 5.

The estate and grounds are are beautiful. There is no arguing that. However, I was disappointed and outraged that there was no mention of the contributions that black slaves made to the running of the estate. It is unlikely that Houma would be standing today without the contribution of Black people. In addition, there was barely any mention of how the property was acquired From indigenous peoples, except for a brief mention that it was purchased from them. I think it is the responsibility of establishments such as Houmas to tell and reveal the full history in all of its details no matter how painful it is. We owe this to Black Americans, and we owe this to the indigenous peoples of the United States.

The museum was closed on the day that I went because of a wedding. It is quite possible that they make mention of these people and their contributions in the museum, but it was not mentioned on the tour.

My favorite of the homes and gardens I’ve seen in my travels from California to the Continent. So beautiful words can’t describe. Thank you to the owner for sharing with the public.

Group tour from Viking Mississippi. House has an interesting history. May be ghosts in the children's room. Spending hours exploring the lush grounds would be easy. When you get to the end, turn around and go back through to see what you may have missed.

A definite must-do if you’re visiting Louisiana. We learned so much about the history of the home and the people during the tour. While we waited for the tour we were able to roam the land.

Wow, what a great experience, we stayed one night, but need at least 3 to do justice in seeing... the best grounds to get lost in, breakfast was beyond words, rooms quaint, nice people working, and tour of Mansion is one of the best, if not the best we toured up the Mississippi.

Enjoyed the tour. Enjoyed the tour guide. Enjoyed the food even more. The service was outstanding. The food delightful. So much so, we overate.

The bbq shrimp and grits were a 5/5

The beef ribs was incredible. The dish included slivers of almonds that added an unexpected and phenomenal crunch to the meal. The green beans were fresh and cooked perfectly. 6/5

The baked oysters with Parmesan cheese provided a good warmup to the meal. 4/5.

The pecan cannoli was so good. 5/5

The bread pudding was very good. It could use a little more sauce. 4.5/5

Traditional plantation house with full guided tour. Great to hear about the evolved design of the house and the activities of its owners. Landscaped grounds are lovely to walk through. We understand that this house had a good relationship with its slaves and gifted them land when the regime came to an end, therefore there isn't so much on the history of slavery it's very much about the house.

Allow a couple of hours to visit. There is also a cafe. At the time of our visit it closed at 2pm, had assumed it might be open later and this is the only food outlet so keep the timings in mind.

Note the Great River Road museum is not included in the main house ticket price, we decided not to pay the extra.

This place is always one of my favorites escapes but it hurts my heart seeing the landscapers, in 90 degree plus weather having to wear mask while working.

20240329 Everyone is so nice here. The VIKING Cruise was here today, and there was a tour group. This garden is beautiful! Dogfriendly too!! There is a cost for admissions, but if you eat at the Carriage House, admission is free. We did have lunch there. The food and service were excellent! Walk across the red Bridge from the parking lot will take you closer to the Mississippi River where the VIKING Cruise Ship docked.

We visited the Houmas House with the entire family. The grounds and gardens are nice (with many eccentric and some creepy pieces of art). We also did a Houmas House tour, which was fine but completely dismissive of the entire slave history of this place. When the group asked questions about slavery the guide said that they cannot really talk about it. What?! I know the website does not mention anything about slavery (let’s conveniently ignore the subject matter and pretend this never happened) but not even to mention all those hundreds of people on whose sweat and blood this place flourished while these Barons lived in luxury is very disrespectful in my view. So, after finishing the tour with much of it focused on the owner and his dogs and nothing on the true and meaningful history of this place, I left with a “something is not right” feeling.

Our tour of Houmas Plantation was exceptional. The grounds are breathtaking and are beautifully maintained. Our tour guide was one of the best we have ever experienced. He spoke clearly and was not hurried in his approach. He was able to answer all questions asked. We highly recommend this plantation.

I’m a tough reviewer but every dinner at Houmas House is perfect. Can’t find a fault even if I tried.

Beautiful old plantation, well kept.

Perhaps a bit spendy.

The museum has fairly limited artifacts. It's mostly just placards with dialog, which was interesting, but for the price a little more was expected./

superbes jardins
