Though it's a little expensive, and has no hot shower, this is hard-to-find campground with electric in Everglades.
Obacht, die tausenden Mosquitos fressen dich auf.
Bring the barbeque stuff with you.
One mile to walk to communicate at the good restaurant or the marina.
Be aware that people aren't kidding when they mention BUGS! I'm a Florida native who came prepared and still got absolutely eaten alive. The mosquitos and no-see-ums are truly brutal. Great place to explore nature though!
Camp ground itself is clean, bathrooms are refreshed every morning, the “solar showers” everyone else complained about are powered by 6 massive solar panels, employees were very polite. It’s simply not a great idea to build a campground on a marsh in Florida. I hoped the mosquitos wouldn’t be as bad as the reviews said because I went in early January, I was sorely mistaken.
I did not pick the campground due to the fact I stayed with friends from out of state who booked the site. It would not have been my choice at all because I’m smart enough to read the reviews thus the three bottles of Off that I brought and used. There’s literally a “mosquito meter” in one of the visitors centers… I will not be going back. Don’t plan on visiting much else outside of the park because it’s nearly an hour away from the nearest town and an hour and a half from the keys. I hope this review spares at least a few poor souls. Do yourself a favor and book a hotel room, make a day trip to the Everglades National Park and spend the other day in the keys.
The visitor center is definitely worth spending an afternoon at, and a beautiful spot to take a camp chair and book and hang out on Florida Bay.
