Magnifique cathédrale de Beauvais avec de magnifiques vitraux. Cette cathédrale bénéficie du plus haut cour d'Europe et une magnifique Horloge astronomique.

La cathédrale St Pierre à Beauvais est une pure merveille de l'architecture avec son chœur gothique de plus de 48 mètres de haut, ses magnifiques vitraux et belles sculptures.
Malheureusement actuellement en pleine restauration/consolidation, l'intérieur n'est pas entièrement visible.
Cependant... à ne surtout pas louper... son Horloge Astronomique, toujours en fonctionnement, créée par Auguste Lucien Vérité... un véritable chef d'œuvre de 12 mètres de haut dans sa conception (avec ses nombreux cadrans, figurines et automates miniatures) consacré à la mesure du temps mais aussi dans sa richesse ornementale. Le clou du spectacle est la visibilité et complexité de son mécanisme derrière de toute beauté qui révèle toute l'ingéniosité humaine du 19ème siècle !!

La cathédrale de Beauvais impressionne par son chœur gothique de 48,50 m, mais aussi par les renforcements structurels pour empêcher un nouvel effondrement. Son horloge astronomique de toute beauté. On ne peut qu'essayer d'imaginer comment elle aurait pu être si sa construction s'était achevée.

Lieu unique en architecturale qui vaut plus qu'un détour, à visiter impérativement.
Cathédrale du début du gothiques, dont les particularités sa hauteur de plus de 150 mètres,(l'ancienne tour lanterne),d'être jamais fini,qui exceptionnel pour un ouvrage de l'époque du moyen âge.
Précision donnée, les voûtes sont à 48,50 m.
D'avoir en possession un rare bijou d'horlogerie, une horloge astronomique de toute beauté et de merveille.

Приехали вечером, Собор был закрыт, вокруг ремонтные работы, но красота.... внутрь не попали, но спасибо всем посмотрели фото, слышали колокола. Посмотреть стоит, без сомнения.

A world treasure of architecture that should be a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you can, read up a bit on Gothic architecture before visiting this glorious space. You will appreciate even more how Gothic architecture exploited the innovation of the pointed arch to make these gorgeous creations a celebration of light.
And indeed, this is a celebration of light .The windows are glowing jewels. About half are original --!almost 800 years old -- and the other half are contemporary because German bombing in WWII destroyed many windows along with a great deal of the town.
A poignant sculpture is more recent than the others: a 1930s statue of Joan of Arc, with the bishop of Beauvais kneelng before her, begging forgiveness for the act of his predecessor. That bishop of Beauvais is the cleric who condemned her to death by fire for the sin of 'refusing to submit.' Although this condemnation of her was recanted 10 years after her death, St. Joan was not canonized until the 1920s. This lovely sculpture was made about 10 years later.
Don't just visit the extraordinary astronomical clock, which is thoughtfully provided with a grouping of chairs where you can relax and fully appreciated the operation of the clock.
Be sure to walk around the ambulatory, lined with chapels including, most especially, the chapel of the Virgin with its 13th-century windows.
In the central space with the main altar (choir), notice the decorations on the columns, including gargoyles and one that might be a ghost.
The elegant tracery on the external decoration is the most delicate and organic that I have ever seen.
I am so grateful to the people who work hard despite what seems to be very limited funds to make this accessible to us. Most of the world treasures that I visit as a frequent traveler are in better shape, and this one clearly shows that is is supported as much by love than money.

Shocked to find out the astronomical clock has been forcibly stopped and is NOT working due to the new priest requesting silence during his mass ! It's a unique mechanical piece of art, 1000 years old that was precise to the second; displaying tides, the night sky and tons of other beautiful things.

Absolutely stunning cathedral in the heart of Beauvais. A must visit place of worship when in the area.
Huge place with beautiful architecture and nice stained glass windows.
There is extensive renovation work taking place at present but there’s still a lot of see.

Actuellement en restauration, donc on ne voit pas grand chose, par contre l’horloge astronomique à l’intérieur est exceptionnelle. Une merveille à voir

C'est une belle cathédrale, mais l'ascenseur pour les personnes en fauteuil roulant est continuellement en panne, j'ai du laisser ma femme attendre dans la chapelle d'accès pendant que je faisais le tour au pas de course. A éviter pendant les travaux qui se terminent en 2027 ou 2029

Très bel ouvrage et impressionnant par la taille de son cœur gothique qui est le plus haut du monde. Une horloge magnifique.
