Prod:
The location is decent as it is walking distance to major subway stops. The hotel also has decently modern decor/furniture plus maintains that well-designed feeling. The room, while it did have a small bathroom, was big enough for me given the range you get in New York. Housekeeping was also on top of things.
Cons:
The biggest reason this hotel falls flat is that it’s far removed from being a Marriott hotel and delivering the quality I usually expect. Upon checkin the desk got my reservation wrong and luckily I had a screenshot from the Marriott app to fix things. The attendant did not acknowledge my Marriott status nor did they mention/explain what the destination fee covers at the hotel. The room itself too, while clean had some old looking carpets and the thermostat was flaky.
All in all, while it might what others are looking for, I most likely wouldn’t come back to this particular hotel and stick to my usual NY spots. This feels like a 4 star and not a 5 star hotel as I see mentioned here.
Check-in is super easy less than 5 mins. Concierge is well acquainted with you and your stay.
Room. The room is well appointed with full mini bar and snacks from a range of vendors. Hint: There is a special pleasure draw ... so feel free to explore.
Location You're in the heart of SoHo! ... for those who dont know ... shoppers paradise and for the more frugal .... Chinatown bargain paradise.
Food: The hotel has 3 options for food that are at least 4 star restaurants in their own right and they cater room service for guests.
Lots of cool eats around, with little Italy being within walking distance.
I have no idea how this is a 5* hotel.
This is my second time staying here. I was here 5-6 years ago. It’s very different now.
They don’t provide any drinking water besides the one complimentary bottle they offer in the lobby. There is a glass bottle that costs $11 that was in the room the first night that I was desperate enough to drink, and it was never replaced. They gave me zero info at checkin about breakfast, the hotel etc.
I’ve had to go down myself — 7 months pregnant — and beg for a water bottle because they also wouldn’t bring any up unless I paid for more. What 5-star hotel doesn’t top up at least 1-2 complimentary waters in your room daily? I find it shocking.
Not to mention all of the staff’s rude attitudes. It’s like you’re a burden to be staying at this hotel. The only decently nice guy was the doorman who helps with luggage.
I don’t expect special treatment but they do see I’m pregnant and alone for a couple of days and haven’t made much effort to be helpful, they sat and watched as I struggled to push open the super heavy door against the wind.
Rooms are okay. Nothing special. But that’s been overshadowed for me by the service I don’t even really care at this point but I won’t be staying here again.
Don’t stay here. It’s not 5 star.
EDIT — one positive I will say. I landed super early in the morning, much before check-in, and they did in fact have a room for me right away. That was a pleasant surprise and really nice to be able to shower and get in a room right away.
Thanks For the great stay
I’d avoid any of the lower floors as they can get loud on the weekends. I guess a portion of lower spaces turn into a night club? I’d try to skip a few of the penthouse suites too because the mechanical can get very very loud at night.
Amenities are sparse but it’s an elegantly designed and clean place to rest and retrieve from the city. Staff are excellent to interact with.
Very much recommended.
One of the major disappointments was the cleanliness of the room. The carpet was riddled with disgusting stains, which immediately gave a negative impression upon entering the room. It is disheartening to see such a lack of attention to detail in maintaining the cleanliness of the rooms.
Furthermore, the bathroom was disappointingly tiny. It felt cramped and uncomfortable, making it difficult to enjoy a relaxing shower or even move around comfortably. To make matters worse, the shower water pooled and wouldn’t drain properly, even after requesting maintenance to fix the issue. No one wants to stand in a pool of soap scum while they are bathing ESPECIALLY in a 5 star hotel. This lack of attention to basic maintenance is unacceptable for a hotel claiming to be 5-star.
Overall, my 5-night stay at 11 Howard was the worst experience I have had at a supposed 5-star hotel. The lack of cleanliness of the room, left a lasting negative impression. While the service and location were commendable, they were the only aspects that remotely resembled a 5-star experience.
I hope that 11 Howard takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary improvements to provide a truly 5-star experience for their guests in the future.
This should have been placed in the room prior to check in as per any standard operating process.....
It doesn't feel premium and at all and it also shows in the hotel furnishing and rooms through old tired wear and tear. The rooms are extremely small even for new york standards. There was a stain on the bedding.
I was told there was a 24/7 fitness centre was on level 3 and even had signs indicating the same. Upon calling front desk - they then informed me that it's not in same building but a block away with a different company and closes at 10pm...
The hallways are so dark you cannot see anything either, very eerie.
Save your money and avoid you could get a better hotel for the price you're forking out on.
Loved the nice touches - like second floor "lobby" area and great smelling shampoo/conditioner/soaps
I wish their bikes were available for use. They were debuting that day for use but we were not allowed to use them due to the forecasted overcast and scattered rain. Never rained so that was annoying.
But overall great location and very cool hotel.
However, I observed a lack of thorough cleaning in my room, with persistent coffee stains on the table. Additionally, the absence of card access for the elevator raises concerns about guest safety, which I value highly.
Moreover, the surrounding area has deteriorated, making the street seem sketchy and unsettling. Due to these issues, I've decided not to stay again in the future.
Here are the things that particularly bothered us:
• The room was tiny and felt crowded
• We found a dirty sock from a previous guest in plain sight in the closet
• The tablet woke us up at ~1am announcing that it had low battery. It was not simple to turn off and this really disturbed our sleep.
• A welcome email from the hotel promised us “one of the most unique welcoming services in the industry”. This sounded quite impressive but we certainly did not experience this. When we asked someone at the front desk to explain this to us they couldn’t.
General feedback:
• The hotel and rooms are dated. The dim lights in the narrow hallway on the 9th floor did not show how old and dirty the carpets were. The door did a poor job of sound insulation and we could hear people in the hallway and the elevators clearly while we were in the room.
• The technology in the room was far from what I’d expect at a premium hotel. The TV didn’t have any streaming services available and the tablet was one of the least intuitive devices I’ve used in recent memory and was practically useless.
• Plastic cups for water in the bathroom did not feel premium at all
However, the minus-one star for me is how inconsistent the staff's knowledge about the policy. For example, I was greeted by a staff with wrong knowledge about how Amex experience over the phone. While I was there, I was also confused by the wording of "providing breakfast" and "breakfast on us". Apparently you have to "register" for that first. The hotel should work better on looping employees in and have clearer policy guidelines.
This is a PSA: do not stay at the 11 Howard. Like many of the reviews, I went in thinking this is a 5 star hotel, given that's what it says on google. Let me stress that if anything, this is a 2 star hotel. It's absolutely disgusting. I've stayed at plenty of nice, 3 star hotels and I wouldn't even compare this to that. When you walk in, there is a curtain separating the lobby from a Club... the check in desk is essentially a folded picnic table with a dude working off of a personal laptop. There's no doorman and no security. The room is even WORSE - chipped paint, damaged chair, damaged sink, handprints on the walls, dirty carpet... I have literally no idea how this place gets away with saying it's 5 star. This should be marketed as a 2 star hotel for $100/night. DO NOT STAY HERE
