We then got upgraded to a king bed, but we were on the 16th floor. Loud music and bass from the nightclub until after 3am. Needless to say, didn’t sleep.
HOWEVER, the staff here are absolutely the best. They will take care of you. It’s not their fault the music is loud, but they moved us to another room the next day. Honestly, everyone working there is great. I would suggest if you have any issues just to speak with a staff member instead of waiting until after your stay is done. They will try really hard to make you happy.
The hotel itself charges $30 resort fee per night, but you also have $30 credit to use at the bar or coffee shop adjacent. Not too bad, and it’s well advertised on their website so shouldn’t be a surprise. Good luggage storage downstairs for free. Elevators are a bit weird to get used to, you select where you want to go on a panel, and it’ll direct you to one of four elevators. There are no buttons inside so you really need to take the elevator you’re assigned to.
All in all, great time spent in NYC and thank you Moxy crew for your good work. I wish I remembered the staff members names, but everyone provided super service.
This Hotel is absolutely Horrendous with non caring staff ????. I Traveled to NYC by myself. I saw reviews about this place and decided to try it out. After traveling/driving for 4 plus hours I arrived at Night , and I originally paid with another form of payment before hand. Once I got there , that ended up being an issue. The guy at the front desk left me standing there, trying to charge the card that I didn't originally use. I later found out that he was the manager as well. He was so rude, unaccommodating, with zero empathy.
I've been in customer service for 11 Years so I was just very down about the entire situation. I was left feeling embarrassed and tired because I had already paid for the room before hand. With my bags in hand I ended up leaving. And No I would never ever return.
What truly bothered me was the fact that he didn't go above and beyond service wise. I even explained my situation calmly and how I had traveled all that way, just to get turned away for a room that I already paid for.
God looked out for me of course because, I ended up staying at The Fairfield Inn where the front desk took care of my needs and went above and beyond for me. They took my reservation last minute and even advised me on parking and just took general care because I was alone.
Lesson learned.
As a Titanium member of Marriott, I am absolutely disgusted and upset by the staff quality and behavior.
1. From 10 pm to midnight, my fiancé and I were hearing squeaking noise from next door and it was quite loud so we asked for a room swap. The staff and security came up to the room to investigate the noise - they listened to the noise and the security said, in a disrespectful manner, “It sounds like the bed springs squeaking. You know this is a hotel right? People do things in the hotel, and we can’t control that right?”. He also insisted, “If you want a room swap, I suggest you go down to the front desk and ask for a room swap”. This was past midnight and I had an early morning transpacific flight to catch the next day. I honestly lost my words.
2. We were provided with some false information about the destination fee. According the to lady at the front desk, it should have been stated in the confirmation email, we rechecked the email but it wasn’t there. The other lady explained that “the destination fee is tax” and “all of the Marriott hotels in NY charges them”, when it clearly isn’t tax and we know not all Marriotts charge them because we stayed at Renaissance NY midtown the night before without a destination fee. It’s not that we didn’t want to pay, it’s the fact that we were not properly explained what it was and what we were being charged for.
There are few other issues like, not a lot about the hotel was explained at check in, the mattress had stains, there was no hairdryer in the room - very unpleasant.
Most of all, not only we never had sincere attitude from any of the staffs, instead they made us feel like it was our fault that we couldn’t bear with the noise or not knowing what the destination fee is.
We asked for a full refund including the destination fee, the fee that still to that point we didn’t know what it was, the lady at the front desk pushed back and said “we cannot refund your destination fee”. She even called me “hun”.
I am a big fan of Marriott hotels and have had many great and pleasant experiences, but absolutely disgusted by this particular stay - will never be staying at this hotel again.
LOCATION: Seriously, you can't beat it. Right between 34th St/42nd St stations, Madison Square Garden, and a few blocks from Times Square. It's just far enough from the madness to not feel overwhelming but is still only a block or two from the action.
STAFF: Honestly, I don't interact with people too much. I'm a Millennial - "unnecessary" human interactions give me anxiety. Moxy makes things very self-serve - need toiletries or clean towels? There's a pantry on each floor with those items. "In-room" dining? Order on your phone and pick it up on the second floor. With that said, every employee interaction has always been very polite, informative, and professional. They have a casual, yet professional demeanor and won't steer you wrong. The bartenders at the lobby bar/restaurant are always VERY kind and helpful, also.
ROOMS: This seems to be an area of concern, so let me be transparent: THEY ARE COMPACT. It's New York City, so I'm not sure where the surprise in small rooms comes from. This hotel is intended for the "young at heart" traveler who wants chic, tastefully appointed accommodations that offer tranquil places to rest and recharge and convenient shared spaces to socialize, grab coffee, work, etc. This hotel embodies that approach. I have stayed in multiple room types (from single twin rooms to quad bunk bed rooms) and all of them share the same quality of being small, but well-appointed. Yes, your family can have a great visit to NYC in these rooms but keep in mind that those bunk bed rooms are intended for "girls trips" vs. family reunions.
RECAP: The rate at this hotel is often lower than surrounding traditional hotels, and that's great for those of us that want clean, comfortable, chic accommodations in a great location. That comes from compromising room size, and I'm 100% on board with that. It makes me feel like I'm in a safe little enclave of the busy city where I can unplug but am still only steps away from the electricity of midtown.
No real desk to speak of, weird fold out “chair” that is about a comfortable as a fold out luggage stand.
Bathroom reminded me of a “wet room” in an RV where the shower and toilet share the same space. Not even a shower curtain to separate the two.
Weird little sink in the hallway near the door instead of being in the bathroom.
Again, it was clean. Just weird.
My main complaint: sound effects with the air conditioner coming on and going off. Some of the sounds are like a train or a cow. Who thought this was a good idea?? It kept me awake the entire first night. After that, I just turned the air conditioner off.
Also a white noise/brown noise machine or app is a must. I couldn’t hear sounds from the club as I was on the 11th floor, but there was a lot of noise, as my room was next to the elevators.
Tons of outside noise even in interior rooms.
Gap between floor and door is as tall as my foot - you can hear every footstep in the hallway.
Heater noise measures > 55db when on. Wakes you up ever 5 minutes.
