Posizione fantastica.

Had to wait half an hour locked out front because the person working the desk that evening fell asleep. When they finally let us in he assured us we were only locked outside for a few minutes. When we showed him the time stamps from the first call to the desk showing it had been exactly 30 minutes, he continued to deny it.

Save yourself the time, money, and frustration and stay quite literally anywhere else.

I was a little worried at first seeing some strange reviews, this is a great place. Super location and good value for Manhattan. The staff during check in were super nice. I would recommend this. The place is also clean.

I stayed here for one night and everything was fine, even though the rooms were kind of small but that wasn't an issue since I was sightseeing most of the time. On the morning I checked out, I was about to get in the shower when I went to pull a towel off the rack and a cockroach crawled out from behind it. So I left as fast as possible and told the front desk and they gave me breakfast vouchers. Which barely made up for it but I wasn't even mad since that I was already checking out. However, when I got back I decided to check my credit statements and seen that they didn't give me back my full security deposit even though I didn't damage the property or anything. And when I called customer service they hung up on me when I was explaining the situation. Now i dont know if that was expected not to give it back fully, but if its as a customer service associate, you should explain that or the website should mention that. Overall, if you gonna spend your money I suggest you go somewhere else, there's too many other nice hotels to stay at in New York.

The stay itself was okay, close distance to Koreatown and MTA; however the room we were in bordered the street and was extremely loud at night (2am garbage truck pickup). But after the stay, similar to other reviewers, my damage deposit turned into a charge of $86 post-stay, despite not using any items in the room nor agreeing to any additional fees. In fact there are no additional fees listed on the hotel website at all. No response on email either.

This was my second time staying at this hotel and it was disappointing. The room was extremely tiny, very dark, and the hair dryer was full of lint and starting to smoke when I attempted to use it ( I had to buy a new one ). Two people couldn't stay in a room so small. My luggage was in front of one of the night stands. The bed to the closet were barely 12 inches apart. My view was a brick wall which was fine since I was visiting family, but the room was dark. The small fridge smelled awful and I am not sure it was functioning - didn't use it. The staff was not friendly and each time I called for help, I was placed on mega hold and would just hang up after 8 minutes. They also attempted to charge me a destination fee. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Horrible service, we stayed here for one night and the hotel overcharged us so I called them after reviewing my credit card bill. The person who answered my call refused to issue me a refund so I told her I will dispute the charges and she yelled at me ????

AVOID this hotel. The first day the reception ask my credit card for 100 dollars for the garantie that was supposed to be reimbursed after our departure. Instead, they charged me two times 200 dollars and reimbursed me 100 dollars. I wrote them but no answer from them. Your credit card information is not safe in this hotel. Avoid avoid avoid….

Lovely hotel and in great NY location near the Korea town and many of the high end furniture shops, rug stores. Hotel breakfast area has a great server name Jacob who will help you with breakfast and coffee. Hotel offers very quick services when requested. Hallway has little musky smell coming from very old carpet. Hotel is well built and super quiet. We stayed in suites for three days.

Stayed at HGU for a week over Christmas with my partner. Reception is open 24 hours which was super convenient as we arrived after midnight. There was a $100 deposit taken from our card which reduced our spending money that we weren’t expecting but was returned to our card within 48 hours of checking out. We stayed in a Deluxe Queen Room which was small but manageable considering how little we were in there. From our window we could peak a view of the Empire State Building a couple blocks away. Heating controls were in the room which was really useful coming from an Australian summer into NYC winter. Shower temp wasn’t overly hot and could be temperamental which was a negative for us as we like really warm showers. Reception staff were lovely and some were great at giving directions and helpful information (specifically the night male staff). Hotel is right next to a metro and short walking distance to attractions. Would definitely stay again.

It's a historic gem of a hotel that is close to all attractions in the heart of NYC. Be sure to check out the old Iron stair case. Roof top, bar and restaurant with views of the Empire State Building.

The HGU Hotel has the worst deposit refund policy in New York/US. Upon check-in they mandate the guests to pay a considerable refundable deposit and assure them that this deposit will be reimbursed 10 days after check-out. However, the guests never get their deposit back because the Hotel uses it to pay extra-fees that were already paid by the guests with the reservation payment. An outrageous and unlawful experience. Be advised.

Good location. Comfortable bed we upgraded to the queen. Nice clean and friendly. Rooms a little small and no view but most are the same in New York. Would recommend.

I'm surprised by all the bad reviews. I've stayed here twice and had great stays. It's really hard to find an affordable hotel in nyc that is in a good location and I feel that this hotel does a decent job of that. The rooms are well designed with a desk to work from that helps a lot. The staff is also very nice. Samantha at the front desk was so pleasant and helpful during the stay. Her kindness went a long way. She treated us as if it was a 5 star hotel. Thank you ❤️

Ok so I maybe wouldn’t put full 5 stars for all categories but wanted to give this hotel some love as many of the reviews here are terrible.

In response to some other reviews I’ve read: If you want 5 star accommodation and service, go to a 5 star hotel. I get that this is the price of a 5 star hotel most places, but prices in NYC are just crazy high so you’ve gotta adjust expectations.

For a 4 star hotel in Manhattan, this was great. We were given an early check-in free of charge and our room was really lovely. Surprisingly spacious for Manhattan. Incredibly comfortable mattress and bedding, we felt really rested staying there.

Location is brilliant, far enough downtown not to be in the full insanity of midtown and also right by the 6 subway which is great for regular trains up and down the city.

We also loved the value of the week gym membership for the gym next door included (but so be warned it’s a no-frill CrossFit gym).
