Expect the typical scummy nyc hotel behavior. Double check any charges to your credit card.

Hotel canceled on us at the last minute. We were told it's because they are now permanently closed, ....but 2 weeks later they are still taking books. Other reviews say similar. Can't trust these people, spend your money elsewhere.

Loved it here.. Right up the block from Katz's deli. The train station too. Staff was super friendly and the room was clean neat and quiet.. Will be staying here again.

Small rooms with no charm or character. Was hassled by the clerk behind the desk after booking through a third party and my user ID was different than my name on my license.
She wanted to make a photo copy of my credit card even though I already paid for the room and deposit. Seems shady to me. Slow elevator, dusty rooms walls require spackle.... overall lacking.

Very average for the price. The floor was incredibly dirty. Front desk were very pleasant and helpful.

Good location just out of the hustle of downtown and the financial district.

I'm generally not picky about hotels. As long as the basics are covered, I'm good. Unfortunately, I can't say that the Gatsby hotel met those basic expectations.

First, check-in. I was told that check-in is at 3pm, which is fair. But when I arrived at 3.30pm, the room was still not ready and I had to wait another 15-20 minutes before I could go in. Strike one.

After checking in, I wanted to take a shower to freshen up. Turns out the hotel didn't provide any soap (?!???!). I asked the front desk about it, and they said that they're out of stock. Yes, a hotel that's out of soap for its guests. Strike two.

The bathroom was also in subpar condition. The paint in the bathtub was peeling off (see photo). The shelving was wobbly. The pipes seemed to be clogged. At this point I was completely over it. Strike three.

The hotel's location seems pretty good, at least. It's walking distance to a number of train stations, and there are plenty of shops nearby. Too bad it seems to be poorly managed. Would not recommend.

Terrible, ugly, and unkept . They first tried to put me in a BASEMENT room with no windows…. I look at the bed and there’s HAIR all over it… I could barely move in the small room and there’s definitely no microwave or refrigerator as shown in pictures when booking. I immediately notified front desk about this issue and they moved me to a little bit bigger room but this one still had hair on the bed and lots of other issues. Deadbolt on door broken, AC/Heater DISGUSTING with dust and debris, NO hot water or barely water at all coming out of sink… for $200 a night they are out their rabbit a** mind. Plus charging an amenity fee for NO amenities. DO NOT STAY HERE

A lot of reviews here made me think I was going to stay in a "pay by the hour" roach motel. This was far from the case. I very much enjoyed my room. I think some of you folks are far too spoiled.

This isn't a luxury hotel, but the room I had was clean and reasonably well kept. Everything worked as it was supposed to. Some of the lighting fixtures were old, but ive seen that in much more expensive hotels as well. Desk service was great, the woman working there when I checked in was totally awesome.

I didn't mind the street noise, but I live in a city, so I'm used to it. If you live in the suburbs or a rural area, NYC is going to be shocking to you regardless. It's not on the hotel to keep the streets quiet.

I'm leaving 4 stars as my stay exceeded my expectations. I can't give 5 because I wasn't really fond of hearing people get it on. Outside of that, decent place.

DO NOT STAY at this hotel. Staff will try to rob you.
Rooms are falling apart and they smell musty.
AC unit was absolutely gross and full of dust and mold.
Paint peeling off the walls.
A staff member accused me of breaking the no smoking policy and physically attempted to break into my room when I was in a towel getting out of the shower. I had to physically block the door to keep them out. Even though I had not smoked in the room, the hotel then charged me $200 after my stay and refused to refund it when I called claiming that I had smoked in the room. Stay anywhere else.
