Very pleasant staff,
Omnipresent, repetitive music is loud and very, very annoying.
Don’t pay to eat at the Paris Cafe - it’s uncomfortable & has mediocre food.
Do stop by the bar in the lobby — bartenders there are delightful and you can get food to go.
We only grabbed coffee & bagels at the food court; it was unpleasantly hectic, disorganized and smelled like a shopping mall food court.
The rooms - well the view of the runway is awesome, but they stint on pillows, the mattresses are not so great and the only bed cover is a comforter in a cover so you either bake or sleep without a top sheet. Probably some impressionable designer thought a duvet was chic.
In summary, I’m glad we went but can only recommend with caveats.
A second attempt got me a guy who told me to come back to the front desk. This 70 year old jet lagged man was in no mood for such poor service. I insisted he send help to carry my bags to whatever room they planned to put me in. An hour after first checking in I’m now settled into my replacement room and writing this. It’s 1:35 am. I am not looking forward to my morning meeting in Manhattan. No offer was made to discount the room. Or upgrade me. I got an apathetic apology from the night manager. It’s a disappointment to find such a low level of customer service at this historical landmark hotel.
The hotel is a showcase of 60s schtick. From old school beauty salon to a Twister room. The rooms are retro but modern.
There is also a great rooftop pool. Heated. Check it out and watch the jets take off.
A 24-hour food area serving many different styles.
If you’re stuck at Terminal 5 (Jet Blue) take a visit back in time and see this great building. It’s connected to the terminal.
If not in terminal 5 - just jump the AirTrain.
The staff here is so helpful and kind. Made me feel very welcomed.
There's no showers just a bathroom to change in.
I have one complaint but legit- lt's the whole airport..... This whole place is cashless. Even the bars in the airport make you order online and it's a REAL PAIN to pay cash. You have to wait for a manager to scan the QR code on your order before anything even happens. I left two bars bc of the long wait no manager ever came to scan my code to put my order on. This place was 100% cashless, the bar stuff happened in the actual airport terminal.
However, I found the rooms to be quite noisy (I could clearly hear my naighbour and other guests passing by in the hallway) and the food and beverages options to be seriously overpriced for a sub par quality.
The staff was ok.
Its location next to T5 JFK is probably its biggest appeal but also contributes to noise all night long. Thin walls, people coming and going at all hours, airplanes and traffic noises (New Yorkers love using their car horns). I'd stay there again in a pinch with a really early flight.
Very misleading!
Get off at terminal 5 and ask for directions or else you might not find it!????
