Menorca at its best.
You have to stay here! We came for 2 nights and stayed for 8…
A relaxing stay at Llucatx hosted by Farida.
Luxury for me is in the details, Llucatx is exactly that. From the friendly welcome pony in the paddock, wonderful breakfast to a packed picnic for a boat trip (who does that in 2023) by the most hospitable host, Farida I have ever met- she is truly a diamond as are all the staff. Will be recommending this place to anyone visiting Menorca.
Six stars- truly charming.
Ci torneremo sicuramente!
I booked a very last minute four day break to Menorca to celebrate my partners’ birthday. I couldn’t book my hotel of my choice for the four days so I settled on two nights at Menorca Experimental and two at Llucatx Menorca. I studied the web site and read reviews carefully and paid €823 for two nights in a double premium room, including breakfast. The Llucatx was more expensive than Menorca Experimental. Llucatx took the full amount from my credit card on booking. Menorca Experimental only took payment on checking out of the hotel.
I wasn't going to write a review, but seeing the owners’ dismissive response to the review from Stijn Nachtergaele, I felt I should..
On arrival at Llucatx, the gates were only half open and looked more like the entrance to an industrial estate than a luxury hotel. The reception area was not obvious and when found, there was no one there. A cleaner eventually found someone to check us in. The walk from reception to our room clearly demonstrated that the construction work had not yet been completed. On inspection, we found the bed to be rock hard and only a sheet and small lightweight blanket provided. The wardrobe handle came off in my hand! The room fridge contained two cartons of chocolate milk! No water in the room either complimentary or chargeable. The safe in the wardrobe didn't work, neither did the TV.. One side of the wardrobe housed a large water tank! Lighting in the room was minimal and it was dark. On the terrace were 2 deck chairs and a small table.
The pool which was equally unimpressive. The paving used was similar to that used for municipal pools and the loungers were old and uncomfortable.
The “connection with nature” promoted on the web site was non existent. The only sounds heard by the pool was the traffic on the main road, 100m or so from the pool. The parasols around the pool looked like they were from Lidl. There was no bar by the pool or at the main building to order water or anything else.
I spoke with Miguel to inform him that I was not happy with the quality and standard of the hotel and both he and Soraya were excellent in my dealings with them. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the hotel manager Farida.
Farida came to our room to find out why I was not happy. I detailed several areas but explained that my primary issue was that I had booked the hotel on the basis of the reviews and their web site, but felt the hotel did not live up to the expectations of the web site and the reviews. Farida explained that the hotel had only been open for a week!
Farida dismissed my comments on the reviews and offered me a 50% refund which I said was unacceptable. I understand the older reviews were from contractors who had worked on the hotel. These reviews are not legitimate. Farida left to speak to the owner. After 45 minutes I went to find her to see what the owner had said. She informed me that they would refund the full amount but not until Monday 14th. I insisted to have this in writing from Farida confirming that the refund would be made as promised. Without going into detail, she was clearly not happy about having to do this and it took another hour to receive this from the hotel before we could leave.
The main issue we had with Llucatx was the rate they charged for what was offered. They are charging the same as top quality luxury hotels on Menorca and If they wish to continue to charge guests at this level then they must raise their standards and the quality of their offer. I would suggest the owner and manager book a room at, for example, Menorca Experimental or Amagatay Menorca. The standard of quality and service compared with Llucatx are enormous, and they could learn much from the experience.
I would add, it is a shame as further investment in the ‘small things’ and the assistance of an experienced designer at Llucatx could greatly improve the hotel. It certainly has two very good staff members in Miguel and Soraya.
When we arrived at Llucatx hotel on the 6th of August ‘23 the manager immediately informed us that they opened only two days earlier. This was clearly noticeable during our entire stay.
There was still a lot of construction work going on which disturbed the overal piece and quiet at the hotel. From the gate to the driveway and more. Many things were still packed in boxes or in plastic. Appliances in the main area, terrace chairs. We spoke to guests where the tv was still in its box when they entered their room. They had the same overall feel and complaints as us.
We felt that there was a good marketing push with beautiful photoshoot pictures and well curated website. This included photos of massages and yoga at the property, as well as an elaborate breakfast.
All reviews were given several weeks ago, long before the actual opening. They were all perfect 5 star scores which combined with the timing makes it highly impossible that they are in fact real. These reviews combined with the photos were our main reason for booking.
The hotel staff did their best and were very friendly but they clearly couldn’t handle the amount of guests. Rooms did not get properly cleaned, the sheets didn’t get changed for an entire week, toilet stayed dirty, the trash bin wasn’t cleaned, etc.
We also noticed many of the appliances such as the tv, coffee maker and vault in the room were either not working or didn’t have batteries. These are basic needs every hotel room, regardless of price or rate, should have. This has nothing to do with luxury or comfort.
As a last but very important remark we would like to address the issue of the many insects in the room and breakfast area. Our suitcases and clothes were covered in ants, as well as the rug and terrace.
At breakfast, we noticed the same problem with ants crawling in the bread baskets. The basic food hygiene was not met and nothing was done to prevent.
We hope to see genuine reviews about the guests stay. It’s a pity that the hotel didn’t do a pre-opening to improve all their flaws. We hope the hotel can smoothen their operations and exceed the image of the hotel and marketing.
