We stay here frequently because it is close to the airport (10 minutes) and close to a lot of good restaurants. The staff are great and the rooms are good. Reasonably priced.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at Alajuela City Hotel and Guest House. We arrived from SJO airport in mid day and were greeted by Farlen at the front desk, who was extremely helpful and showed us to our room. Our room was quiet and just what we needed after a long day of travel no noise and great sleep. The hotel is close to ATMs and a few restaurants in a walkable area. Breakfast delicious.... Yummmmm
I will be back and will bring my family as well

I slept a couple of times at the Alajuela City Hotel between different trips and tours during my 6 week stay in Costa Rica.
It was always nice coming back to my 'home away from home' in Costa Rica and being welcomed like a longtime friend by Carlos with his wide smile.
Can absolutely recommend staying there!

Très bon séjour avant de reprendre l'avion. L'hôtel est cosy, le patio très agréable et le petit déjeuner très bon ! Un accueil extrêmement chaleureux de la part de Carlos. Il y a une place de parking pour un petit supplément le long de la maison.

Had a great stay at the Hotel! Needed to sleep one night before heading into the Jungle and this hotel was absolutely perfect for it. It is in the middle of Alajuela where there are all the shops you need and some small parks to relax.

The host and master chef Carlos was super helpful. He showed me around, cooked some traditional costa rican dishes in the morning and we had a great time! Another 5 stars for him!

I would recommend getting some cash with you to pay because then you even have a little discount (dollars or colones).

What I also really loved is the front and back garden of the place. There is lots of room the chill, work and eat here!

If you ever need a great, safe and clean hotel close to the airport, I highly recommend the Alajuela City Hotel!

Lovely old world charm - has little courtyard w fountain and beautiful plants, super friendly staff, high ceilings, great towels, comfy bed. Rustic, restful and very comfortable!

Very close to the Airport, convenient for my overnight stay, didn't want to get to far from the airport, nice area. Carlos and Fabiana were very helpful and friendly made me feel at home. In general very clean hotel. Would come back and recommended.

Superior service. The man working the reception desk on Saturday night was TOP NOTCH. Gave us a breakfast to go at 4:30 in the morning! I’m always coming back here! Thanks for the stay!

Lovely little hotel! The owners, Charles & Heather, and their poodles! are so welcoming and accommodating. They have rooms to share with friends as well as private. Their breakfast is delicious. The place is quiet and homey. Location is excellent near shops, parka, restaurants. We stay here with our students from summer program every summer! Would stay here again!

I had to stay at this hotel due to a last minute change in my plans. They quickly booked me and accommodated me in a nice hotel room
Next to the lobby. The front desk guys Carlos was amazing. He was the highlight of my stay and gave me so much valuable information. The place truly felt like it was owned by a small family and you just went to visit! Very close to the airport.

We had a wonderful one-night stay at Alajuela City Hotel and Guest House. We arrived from SJO airport in the late evening and were greeted by Carlos at the front desk, who was extremely helpful and showed us to our room. Our room was quiet and just what we needed after a long day of travel. The hotel is close to ATMs and a few restaurants in a walkable area. Breakfast in the morning was tasty! Our shuttle showed up 40 minutes early and the amazing staff came to alert us right away and were so gracious when we had to leave in a hurry.

Der ideale Ort, um die Costa Rica Reise zu starten und zu beenden. In direkter Nähe zum Flughafen San José mit Restaurants in direkter Umgebung. Toller Service und saubere Zimmer!

Nous avons passé une nuit là bas car notre vol arrivait à 17h et nous ne souhaitions pas prendre la route.
Les chambres ne sont pas insonorisées, vous entendez strictement tout (bruit de la rue, gens qui parlent). La décoration est très vieille et l’hygiène laisse à désirer. En tournant le mitigeur d’eau celui ci nous est resté entre les mains. La salle de bain est vraiment très vieillotte.
Le petit déjeuner est ok.
Le staff est sympa notamment le gérant très accueillant. Nos valises avaient été égarées et il nous a aidé à trouver des vêtements et produits de première nécessité.

Thank you for mentioning our amazing staff. We really try to make everyone feel welcomed and careed about.
The room you booked is in our main 100 year old house and it has the construction of that time period. It is part of the buildings charm. Next time, you may want to consider or Supeiror Rooms that are off a private back hallway. They are newer and out of the main area.

In so far as the shower handle... we took a look at your room and cannot figure out what you are discussing about the handle. It seems to be fine. If you ca reach out to us and let us know exactly what the problem is so we can find it and correct it.

Amazing staff! Super welcoming! My boyfriend surprised me with a stay here. This hotel used to be a hospital! Being a nurse, it was definitely special place to stay! Thank you for your welcoming hospitality!

Charles, Heather, Jesse and the rest of the staff are a treasure. They are very helpful and extremely nice. The hotel was clean, quiet and relaxing and in a great location for traveling to and from the nearby airport, I can’t recommend the hotel enough.

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip to Costa Rica and could not have asked for a more perfect place! This was our first trip to Costa Rica and Alexandra took wonderful care of us - she was awesome! All of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The courtyard and rooms were lovely and the hotel was in a really good location to explore. We would highly recommend the Alajuela City Hotel. I feel as though I have a kindred spirit with Alexandra and I thank you so much for all your kindness!!

Awesome place, whole family stayed here after my wedding checking out the city and they all loved it. Clean nice rooms. Super hospitable owner and hosts. The owner definitely seems the type of person to hang out and crack a cold one with you.

I had a wonderful stay. The owner and staff are all friendly and always making sure you are taken care of. The property is located in the middle of the town so it’s convenient to walk around and explore. All the facilities where clean and comfortable. Would definitely come back and stay here during my next visit to Costa Rica.

This is a great place to stay when you're in the San Jose area. It is convenient to the airport and close to the north side of town for easy access to other parts of the country. The owners are nice folks and are most accommodating. Breakfast is fantastic! Be sure to order the beans and rice, which is, in my opinion, the best in Costa Rica. Accommodations are clean and quiet with modern air-conditioning. They arranged a rental car for us from a reliable and high-quality rental company and made things easy for us. Be sure to tell them that I recommended them highly.

Ambiance relaxante qui contraste avec l'agitation de la rue. Il existe des événements. Jazzy/cuisine du chef traiteur qui viennent à l'hôtel. Dommage que je n'ai pas été informée. C'est un petit loupé.

loved this place. great service! everyone was kind and helpful. my 530 am airport pickup went smooth and easy. beautiful gem of a hotel. bring earplugs if you sleep lightly, as the street noise is noticiable.

Great for business and female solo travelers. In the city but felt like a mini oasis with the trees and birds and sounds. Quite. Rooms very clean and nice. Staff very friendly and communicative. Great price. Good breakfast. Fabulous bistro area with water feature. Can't say enough. For being in the city, I loved this place.

Positive: The staff is wonderful! Carlos helped us get checked in even though our daughter arrived at 1:00 am. The breakfast was excellent and the seating was relaxing. Wonderful experience. Negative: The only difficulty for us was parking our car--no place to park except at a nearby public lot. This is a great place if you are using a taxi.However, it worked ok since we pulled up in front of the hostel and unloaded. But would not do this in the dark!
