Warm and embracing traditions at the Hotel Lion D'Or, Bayeux, France. Fantastic location in the center of the ancient city, with easy access to all of Normandy. Quaint, yet modern rooms overlooking the medieval city, with attentive and helpful staff. Virginie on checkin and Ann-Laure on checkout were both excellent. The restaurant staff were very cordial and accommodating, with Lucy being a delight and a cheerful, welcoming face each morning at breakfast. Steps aways from the cathedral, shops, restaurants, and the Bayeux Tapestry. Many thanks to the amazing staff. We will return. (Hint: 1. Check out the clever handicrafts for sale in the lobby. I love my coin purse by L'Aline. 2. Reserve your parking in advance. ) Enjoy!

Wonderful food and warm welcome from the staff team. This is our favourite hotel in Normandy. We look forward to our return in 2025.

We were disappointed in the hotel after reading the positive reviews. The service at the front desk was robotic and sometimes rude. Our family room, although large, was dark even in sunshine. The heat worked sporadically and was slow to come on when working. Toilet paper, tissues and towels were not replaced and we needed to go down to the desk to get them. The bar, although beautiful, was never staffed and we often walked out without seeing a bartender. The breakfast was not worth the money. The location, however, was excellent.

After three weeks of touring Paris, Bayeux, Lyon and the Rhone River this was our favorite spot. We were there for two nights and it was a perfect little spot. The front desk staff and hotel were great and the town was charming. The staff catered to our every request for help as we speak NO French and helped with reservations and scheduling tours. The front desk does it all from checking you in to bartending their adorable little lounge area. It was so charming. A private tour of Normandy is well worth the money as well!

We stopped at the restaurant (4 adults and 4 young kids) and left after over 3 hours of very bad service and an overcharge on our account. The food, although delicious, took a very long time. After so long we asked for our dessert to come right away even though we weren't yet done the main course... but we still had to wait an additional 10-15 mins after we finished it anyway. We asked for water 4 times and it never came. We let the waiter chose wine for us, our mistake. Ended up with one lower cost glass (what we wanted) but the other glass he served one guest was almost triple the price. The worst is that somehow there were two charges on our credit card. One for the expensive meal - yes we swiped our card... and an additional charge for 32 Eur (45.19 CAD on statement) that we did not authorize or swipe/pay for! It is unknown how they charged us for this. Did they save our credit card info to charge us later?!

Sadly my experience was way below expectations especially for the price paid. Firstly the good points, the location is second to none right in the heart of Bayeux, parking on site great bonus and that is end of the positives I’m afraid.
I had booked this hotel months in advance and I should have checked regarding elevator and rooms as I was travelling with my mother who is in her 80’s. Luckily she is still quite mobile as we had a room on 2nd floor so she had to walk up 4 flights of steps! We were in room 20 which I would advise to avoid at all cost, here’s why. On entering the room you are in a narrow hallway with another door in from of you into the bedroom on your left are sliding wardrobes and on the right was another door into a small cupboard that had the toilet! Which by the way you couldn’t close when you were sat on the toilet as there wasn’t enough room so you felt like everyone going up and down the stairs passed your door could hear you in the toilet. You then had to walk through the bedroom to the opposite side into the shower room to wash your hands - totally unhygienic. The hotel had clearly painted the little hallway and toilet recently as all we could smell in the whole room was paint which kept us awake most of the night that and the sound of people going up and down the stairs and using the toilet in the room above us.
The room was not clean there were hairs on the floor. And it was rather dated.
We were travelling with my dog and the hotel advised us that the dog would not be allowed to accompany us if we dined in the hotel or to breakfast which I found strange in France as usually she is welcomed everywhere. However I accepted this rule but when I asked if we could sit in the bar area (it was cold out and they had a real fire and comfortable chairs and sofas which for my mother would have been ideal) I was told no as the hotel was full. So we had to stay out all evening and when we returned before 10pm there two people in the bar so it wasn’t even full. Then when we checked out and I was asked if the stay was okay and I said disappointing the receptionist asked me why ans I politely told her the reasons which she didn’t address except to say she would have said we were allowed in the bar with the dog. All of this was so disappointing. We stayed in many hotels across France and Spain that were truly dog friendly this hotel is not and was the most expensive on our roadtrip. I wouldn’t recommend and I would not stay again.

An exquisite boutique hotel. Room was beautifully appointed. The bar was cozy with the fireplace going. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had in France much less a hotel!!! Homemade bread and fresh farm eggs. Great coffee machines that you can go back to time and again!!
The service was over the top. Wonderful and it made our stay very special!????????

Beautiful hotel with a rich heritage! We were given a nice welcome by the hotel staff when we arrived. Check-in was very quick and the staff took the effort to show us to our room.

The hotel was conveniently located in the city centre. The Notre Dame, Bayeux Tapestry are all within walking distance from the hotel. You will be spoilt for choice with the many restaurants, cafe and bakeries around the hotel.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Bayeux. Parking just outside the hotel and if you prefer book there is a name on your space. €10 euros per night but well worth it.

The concierge was very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

The room had a coffee maker and kettle, also water in a carafe. Also towelling robes and slippers a real pleasure.

Large walk in shower and lovely smelling soap and handcream

Prefect location in heart of city. Rooms are OK. We had a stopped up shower drain that was attended to promptly but why did we have the problem to begin with? Staff is standoffish...hit and miss. Breakfast, compared to four other French hotels we stayed at during our trip to this region, was our least favorite. Coffee comes from coffee machines. Most items served were packaged. I am sure this hotel was wonderful many years ago but it is beyond its prime years now.
