Also, when I messaged the property about that, they didn’t even respond.
Secondly, the Wi Fi login/password are nowhere to be found in the room even though they state they should be. You have to message the property and ask for it (at least that was quick).
Thirdly, the room is quite dirty. Mold on the walls, dust on the surfaces, the floor under the beds seems like it hasn’t been cleaned in months.
But all of it vanes compared to their ridiculously bad customer service. The staff is not just rude, they are aggressive and hateful.
We had an emergency because on the day we had to leave, our child fell sick with a food poisoning so we called their office to ask if we could check out a few hours later (we even offered to pay extra). It also made sense to us because we KNEW for sure that they do not clean their rooms right away so even if the next guests were arriving on the same day, it wouldn’t have made a big difference. Instead, their employee started yelling at us when we pointed that out and said that apparently it’s because of the guests like us they do not clean their rooms on time ????????????
All in all, it’s an absolute trash and the worst accommodation we’ve ever had. Not something you’d expect from Zurich. It’s better to pay a bit more and save your nerves. DO NOT STAY THERE!
The only good things were location and relatively cheap (fro Zurich)
Many bad elements to this accommodation:
-Awful communication from staff - they do not appear to care at all and also seem incompetent.
-Poor condition of apartment - stains on walls, curtains been taken down with broken fixtures, shower doors broken, so makeshift curtain which clings to you as you shower etc.
-Bed uncomfortable - 2 single mattresses on a double base and one of the mattresses has partially collapsed.
-Fridge and electric hob not working and they did not send someone to repair these despite multiple requests.
-Front door had a large glass pane that was only partially blocked out, so apartment including bed is visible from outside to anyone who wants to look through the largish gap.
-Not enough towels provided for a 10-night stay
All in all one of the worst places I have stayed.
Bad service and you will feel like you’ve got scammed.
Hotel's location is fantastic with a supermarket (Coop, Römerhof) and bus/tram stops nearby. We felt that Wi-Fi connectivity & room cleanup before we checked-in should have been better, and conveyed the same to hotel management. Another point to note is that the hotel's access is through the alley between street numbers 125 & 127 of Asylstrasse. Bar/Restaurant on the ground floor of the property has nothing to do with the hotel.
The room was clean, well-equipped, and not too shabby. The heater functioned perfectly, which was a relief since it was a frosty February in Zurich. They had everything one would expect from a basic hotel room.
But here's a word of caution: after booking your stay, make sure to check your email. You will receive a message from the hotel, not just a confirmation, containing the passcode and room number. Without this information, you might find yourself stranded outside the door, with no one to receive your calls or help with check-in. Trust me; I know how it feels to be left out in the cold, frantically seeking assistance from our travel agency (at last we stayed at another hotel for the first night).
Furthermore, if you have a lot of luggage, you may want to pray for a room on the ground or first floor. Unfortunately, there is no lift in the building.
However, let's not forget that this is one of the most affordable places to stay in Zurich. With that in mind, who could realistically expect luxury amenities and top-notch service? All in all, Swiss Star California proved to be a pleasant surprise and an excellent value for the price.
But honestly the room was very clean and the building itself is also clean.
It is a good value for money. So it is not fancy at all but it is clean.
Also the self check in was so smooth and it is a big advantage in my opinion.
Location is good if you take the tram, but if you walk you need around 40 mins till the center.
