I'm a truck driver and I park my truck in a different town and I like to stay at hotels on my home time so it's like a mini vacation. I drive my personal car so my truck doesn't take up the room at hotels. I've stayed in a lot of hotels. I'm a diamond member on every rewards plan out there from Choice to Wyndham. I literally spend thousands a year on hotels.
I've stayed at Candlewood on my hometime probably 30 days or more in total. I've had several issues at this particular hotel. It has very low water pressure, half the time the TV freezes up, internet is very slow, rooms are very noisy especially on first floor (which is where they keep putting us even when we request 3rd floor), very limited parking, no breakfast(cause they have kitchen), stove is very hard to operate, couches are extremely out dated and worn, mold, spiders, had water leaking into the hall, dishwasher leak, dishwasher didn't latch so couldn't use it to do dishes, dryer takes over 2hr to get clothes mostly dry.
The reason I'll never stay here again however is this. My uncle passed away on Feb 28 and I had to rush home from NC, the wake was going to be in March 1st and funeral on March 2rd. I booked 2 rooms on the 1st. One for me checking out on the 5th and other for my cousin checking out the 2nd. We get to the hotel at about 10pm on the first tired and drained from the wake. And the parking lot was full. Apparently there was a baseball game or something going on. I drove around the small parking lot and only space available was a handicap spot. Previously while here I was told it was ok to park in the spot if no other spot was available since it's private property I won't get a ticket...Well the next morning at 7am we leave to head to the funeral home and there's a parking ticket sitting on my windshield. The ticket is for $300. I ask front desk about it and they were surprised I had a ticket. They told me I needed to talk to the manager Monday when he comes in that he should be able to help. When I spoke with manager and asked him if he could just give me a letter stating the hotel was full that night and there was no other parking spots available I'd appreciate it so I could get ticket removed. He said he needed to call corporate. We checked out and stayed at a different hotel on the 5th. Took 2 days before he got hold of corporate. He said they told him they couldn't do anything. So he then tells my wife he wanted to talk to the manager at Holiday Inn and get their advice on how they would handle it. Well when he finally does contact the other manager (while in a managers meeting) they all said they would write a note saying lot was full. Well he didn't.
Took him nearly 2 weeks to come out and say he wasn't going to give us a letter. I wasn't asking for them to cover the ticket if the court denied the letter. I was just asking for a statement a factual statement at that.
The girls that work the front counter are great. The manager is a f-ing disgrace. I'll never stay at that Candlewood again. I'll never suggest anyone stay there. In fact about 3 miles down the road closer to the Starbucks is a Staybridge hotel that offers the same features as Candlewood but it also servers a full breakfast and has a pool and it's only a few dollars more a night. So we will be upgrading to a better hotel and Candlewood can melt into obscurity.
I really hope the front desk girls move on to find a better place to work. Working under slime ball like Robert is very disheartening.
