However, I hadn't stayed there in the last 6 years as I was living permanently in Paris. Now, as a visitor to the French capital once again, I resumed my lodging habits and booked the Lavoisier for 2 nights. Unaware it had been sold, I was taken aback by the transformation of the hotel.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by what seemed like an entirely new establishment, prompting a moment of doubt about whether I had arrived at the correct address.
While I understand that changes often accompany shifts in ownership, the new decor failed to meet the expectations one would have for a prestigious establishment in the 8th arrondissement. The lobby, with its glaringly bright lights and shiny white paint, resembled more of a hospital hallway than a welcoming entrance. Moreover, the relocation of the breakfast room to the lobby gave the impression of a trendy restaurant rather than a traditional hotel. The mishmash of Japanese influences, lantern-style chandeliers, and an assortment of small tables with mismatched chairs, ranging from Ikea styles to rattan, created an eclectic but disjointed atmosphere.
My initial disappointment was somewhat alleviated upon entering room 36, which retained its old charm. The comfortable bed ensured a peaceful night's rest amidst the unfamiliar changes.
One reassuring aspect was the presence of familiar faces among the original staff, which contributed to a sense of familiarity and comfort.
Nevertheless, I hope that the decor will undergo adjustments to better align with the refined tastes expected in this district. Perhaps starting with dimming the lights could help create a more subdued and welcoming ambiance.
This is not a 4 stars hotel.
Paris is a city of lights, flowers some how chic. This hotel is not Parisian at all.
Breakfast was on the floor -1.
At night when we arrive there was nobody except we made some noise and then someone showed up.
People who work there have breakfast same time as we had.
The elevator is creepy.
It’s well located, 2 block from the metro.
The bedroom was fine. No refrigerator. Nothing in the bathroom except for shampoo and soup. No conditioner, toothpaste, etc.. like a 4 stars hotel would have.
We booked this for October 2023 trip of ours. check in 16th and check out 19th 2023
Should have told us before when we booked months in advance that kids are NOT Allowed.
Now we will have to book on almost twice the price. Highly non recommendable.
Alternative given is WAY out of the current location. We purposefully took hotel in 8th Arr, and they want us to go beyond 15th Arr and more far. They dont even want to return money we paid. Struggling lot with them in getting accomodation back.
Please beware before booking this hotel, they will cancel at the last moment.
Hi hotel, As I cannot reply to your comment, I am adding more comments here.
Hotel was booked for 2023 and not any random date and sob story which you are telling.
I never even made to hotel as my trip is in future and you created a sob story which tells anything but a lie.
the reason we likes your hotel as it is at a perfect distance what we wanted. Now, the alternatives you are giving us for cancellation are in 15-16th arr and worse further.
Now, as you cancelled at last minute, the rates we are getting is 3 times what we got it before now and we now have to shell out more money for replacement for no fault of ours.
Hope this enlightens you and next time you dont SCAM peopl
