THOMPSON MADRID

There are some things they still need to work out:
Most importantly, bar service is absolutely terrible. It is as if the staff are there to just hang around or clean dishes. I went on multiple occasions and service was dreadful each time. This seems consistent with other reviews. I once left and went to the Four Seasons after getting so frustrated (where service is fabulous even for non guests!).
Construction site outside so cars can’t pull up. Easy fix is to have porters receive check in’s. Instead I had to wheel my luggage up in the rain not only at my arrival but also again at my departure - not a good look!
Noise - I faced the courtyard and you can hear absolutely nothing outside which is lovely. Unfortunately you’ll hear every step and whisper in the hallway, every door slam, and they were also doing maintenance (on a Fri/Sat) directly above me during my stay. So relaxing in the gorgeous room was quite hard.
With all of this said I’d still go with 4-4.5 stars because I see lots of potential. The bar situation which again was beyond horrible brings me to 3. Replace the bar staff and you’re on to something with a few kinks to work out.
