MANATUS HOTEL

Alcoholic drinks are not included, but the bar has a good selection of cocktails, wine and beer. All at reasonable prices - $6-7 for glass of wine, $8 for cocktails.
The two tours with a guide (included) were excellant. Each was 2-3 hours exploring by boat (no walking). The guide, Luis, and the boat driver, Ronnie, spotted many animals which we would never have noticed ourselves, and managed to manoeuvre the boat to give us a good view. We saw iguanas, other lizards, slothes, monkeys, caymen, many birds, bats. They were very enthusiastic, and clearly knew a lot about the animals in the park.
If you are not on a wildlife tour, it is easy to chill-out here. There are several comfortable places to sit and watch the view on the river, and a very nice swimming pool.
Tortuguero is an isolated place with access only by boat or air. We flew from San José in a small plane (12 seats) and landed at the very small airstrip on an adjacent piece of land. This is a fascinating and exciting way to arrive, though the more common coach + boat transfer would also be very interesting. We were met at the airstrip and transferred by boat to the hotel. And taken back to the airstrip at the end of our stay. We felt well looked after, which is important in such an isolated place.
Overall, a great place to explore the wilderness from a very comfortable base.
Everything was perfect, they picked us up from our hotel in San Jose and the guide on the journey to the hotel was brilliant.
After the bus ride a boat trip to the hotel which took around an hour and a half.
Rooms spotlessly cleaned and the bathrooms superb - looked like they had been refurbished recently to a very high standard.
Lovely pool area and great seating areas over looking the water.
Staff were great, particularly the younger waiter. I think his name was Gerald. Nothing was too much trouble and he went out of his way to ensure everyone in our group was happy and had everything we needed.
If you are planning on visiting Tortugero this hotel is highly recommended
