Youth Hostel Plakias is one of the beste places I have ever stayed in. Sofar, I have been 5 times, and I do not intend to stop coming back.
The Atmosphere here is chill, relaxed and joyfull, the hostel grounds perfectly suited to join groups of other travellers, play cardgames and have drinks together, or to relax on your own in a hammock underneath some trees, and Ulli, the manager is an incredible host doing the utmost to create a beautiful experince for his guests, and a true fountain of knowledge about the area.

Make sure to have a few days when you come, and belive me, you'll still want to extend and stay longer ;)

It is almost the cheapest accommodation on Crete,but it’s a cozy space and kitchen with good quality for backpackers.
The location is at countryside,so if you walk out the hostel you’ll see beautiful stars.
Beach is in walking distance.
You can get a bus to prevli beach or K*** gorge to see the amazing waterfall also.
Host are friendly and helpful.
They also provide some equipment for river tracing for free rent.????????

This is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed in.
The hostel is located in the most beautiful location, surrounded by mountains. You feel like you’re in the countryside, yet there are restaurants, bars and shop less than 10 minutes walking distance. I loved everything about this hostel: the dorms, the outdoor kitchen, the hamacs, the zen and friendly vibe. This is a very social hostel, I was traveling solo and I’ve made so many friends there. Uli is very helpful if you need any information. I will definitely stay there again. Thanks so much!

Been to many hostels all over the planet... But this is the best hostel by far! Love the community vibe! For young and old. Me and my mom (in her sixties) stayed here 3 times in the past 5 years. I can't stop coming back again and again. And Uli is an amazing host. If I could give ten stars I would.

De loin le meilleur hostel de toute la Crète, cet hostel est un vrai petit paradis! Uli est un responsable adorable qui nous a conseillé de nombreuses randonnées. Il nous a amené dans une taverne incroyable où la nourriture traditionnelle était vraiment délicieuse. Le côté intergénérationnel était vraiment génial. De belles rencontres, de beaux souvenirs, merci pour tout!

Ein ganz besonderer Ort, an dem man interessante Leute trifft. Uli der Hostelmanager gibt tolle Tipps für Unternehmungen, aussergewöhnliche Tavernen und versteht es unterschiedliche Menschen zusammen zu bringen. Kümmert sich außergewöhnlich gut um alles.

Best Hostel I have ever been at! The manager is really friendly and if you want to, he tells/shows you all the insider places. It's clean and beautiful, nice garden, great kitchen, just perfect!

cannot recommend this place highly enough! the atmosphere is wonderful, the rooms are large and spacious, the location is beautiful and close to lots of beaches, and everyone is so nice!! I'd recommend this place to everyone!

I have been to the hostel many times in October and loved it and the friendly and easy going way of Uli the manager. It's a special place. This was the first time I had been back since covid and I felt there were changes around the town. It has become more built up and the age profile in town and in the hostel was definitely older than before. The hostel has always been a mix of ages and let's say the older people are mostly young at heart (like myself!) So I found the atmosphere in town and hostel less influenced by the younger backpacker vibe which made me a bit sad. I hope it was just a freak circumstance and not a trend as it seems young peoples lives have been affected more than the older and more well set from the global problems of the last few years. Anyway, after all that, it's nice to say the hostel remains a beacon of welcome and generosity even as the world around it changes.

An unreal hostel. I met more people who extended their stay before checking in then who didn't extend. It's this kind of extraordinary atmosphere at the end of the world, people felt completely comfortable leaving their phones unattended for hours on end. The hostel is the best version of a hostel like it: the most relaxed hostel you'll ever see that sometimes (maybe twice a week) goes kinda nuts and people will be drinking wine by the liter but normally it's calm and by no means a party hostel but super social.

Bravo to Uli, the boss man, for creating a space that I didn't really believe could exist.
Of course of you're tired of beaches mileage may vary but it's the warmest and most comfortable (vibe wise, facilities are good not great) hostel I've ever stayed at. The kitchen and dorms get the job done but nothing more, the hammocks and roofs are wonderful.

Stay here if you're at all curious, pass if you're not looking to hang out at beaches or on hikes.

Truly a magical place with an atmosphere that is unmatched in comparison to any other hostel I have stayed in. It’s more of a community than a hostel, as many guests will stay for weeks or even months. If you want to go explore the surrounding area, chill in the hammocks and read a book, or drink wine and party with the other guests, you can do it all here. Made some great friends staying here even though the crowd is very mixed in terms of age. Would highly recommend staying here for at least a couple days!

I had the most amazing time at Youth Hostel Plakias!!! I originally booked 3 nights and ended up staying 2.5 weeks. It would have to be one of my favourite hostels ever! There is a big sense of community and inclusiveness. I met many amazing humans and can’t wait to visit again soon! Thank you Uli!!!!

The best hostel I’ve stayed at in Greece. Uli has done a great job creating a map of the area, filled with plenty of activities for the guests to enjoy. I recommend doing the river walk if you do stay here.

Un endroit merveilleux ! Franchement le cadre et très reposant et les équipements sont largement suffisants. Vous avez également toutes les informations nécessaires en terme de randonnée et de plages à l’accueil. C’est un endroit hors du temps où vous passerez vos meilleurs moments. Foncez-y !
