My husband and I took the trip from hell from Mississippi to Chamonix France. Everything that could go wrong seemed to (except our plane didnt crash.). When we got to the hotel LA FOLIE DOUCE. We were tired and very resentful by the time we pulled our luggage from the center of town to the hotel. (Uber drivers didn’t wish to take us because of our luggage.).

So we are in our room and the lamp on the desk (one of two lights in the dark room didn’t work. The next morning we talked to the front desk and they assured us that we simply didn’t know where the switch was.

I unplugged the lamp to take to front desk to ask for help. Instead, a very attentive housekeeping attendent was in the hall and offered to help us. Her name was Saida and she identified the problem (switch was broken off) and got it replaced. She also has continued to help us with questions that we have about the area and information about the hotel.

What a delight. Saida made the trip shift from being a nuisance and trapped in hell to an enjoyable experience. And I began to notice that all of the workers here go out of their way to accomodate the needs and questions of the guest. They understand that the guest are exhausted by the time they arrive.

Under staffed, no food between 2pm and 5pm, very limited options (one type of milk, no green tea, only blended ones), ordering at the bar mandatory. This place is a disgrace.

I went on a family holiday in February 24 and stayed at La Folie Douce Hotel. It is a very unique hotel, unlike any other I have stayed in before, certainly for a Ski resort! It has its quirks, for example:

Family friendly but with a club scene edge to the entertainment and decor.

Thumping music in the evenings, but not so loud you need to leave the room.

Apre ski outside, the only true apre ski in Chamonix, although the music is not loud, it is a chilled vibe.

Positives:
Friendly staff
Amazing breakfast
Comfortable bed
Clean and tidy rooms
The Spa is lovely
It is the centre of “things going on”

Negatives:
We were expecting more partying, it was too quiet for a proper party.
Bar only had 3 beers on tap, one being an IPA…
Rooms are dark and a bit basic, but it’s okay if you are not in them allot.
No hot drinks after 5pm…
There are 3 restaurant in the hotel, they are nice but some of the food is too expensive and a rip off sadly. €30 for one prawn.
Boot room opens at 8pm…
No tea or coffee or cakes after skiing, this was a shame.
Hotel is very big, allot of guests, some quite loud.
Rooms are quite loud in the night with music and people in corridors.
The spa does not have a cold plunge facility.
You do not get gowns or slippers these are €10
Check in was late at 4pm, and bags weren’t taken to our room after a 4 hr wait!
The ski lift outside does not run so you can’t ski OUT, the run had no snow so no ski IN either, this was disappointing.
The walk to bus stop is 10 mins in ski boots, not comfortable.

Not the hotels fault but we felt the busses in Chamonix are too irregular, always too busy and the bus time tables are hard to understand.

Apart from this we did have a great holiday with great snow, and it is a unique hotel worth visiting. If you are looking for a quiet hotel don’t stay here.

Bar service needs to be addressed. Friendly staff but they don’t have the capacity and abilities to deal with the clients that they try to serve

Ana une réelle joie d’avoir été servi par elle ! Agréable, commerçante !

L’endroit est top et la nourriture également.

Good location, close to many of the most popular slopes in the area, with great transport links.

Some annoyances, like the shower was slow to drain, the free WiFi was slower than treacle, and that the cleanliness of the Spa was subpar.

But the rooms were nice, it had a good atmosphere, and a good location.

Service is average , they have good restaurants with shows at night , good vibes but the issue is that you can hear all the noises in your room , the elevator is old and scary ! I think it needs more maintenance.
Rooms : they have the worst beds i have ever experienced in any hotel
One week past from my trip and i still have backpain ! You definitely need a message session after checking out .
Location : this is the best thing about this hotel , great location !

The whole “experience” starts with “Wauu” everything, even in the emails they try to sell it as an incredible experience - it is not. They sell a place to party with shows and so on, nowhere they say the place is full of kids, running around everywhere, even in the restaurants.

Customer service is sub par, checked in, and did not get anything about where to go, amenities location, and no bell boy to help with luggage.

Requested to talk to the concierge about booking some ski classes, can’t, the representative is at lunch for 2 hours and no one is covering for him.

Room stinks to cigar smoke heavily, mentioned this to the person checking people in, they sent somebody to “spray” the room. Now it smells like cigar with roses.

This was supposed to be a nice vacation but it really fell short of everything on that regards.

Location is prime though, however for over $380 per night, I expected much more.

The interior design on this hotel is very cool and eclectic. Rustic chic I would describe. The hotel has lots going for it but it really needs to sharpen up the attention to detail. Room was great. Recently refurbed and practical. Shower door and safe needed fixing. €20 for water in the room takes the .... Lifts very old and frequently out of order. Reception staff were a mix of very helpful and a look of distain. Pool was 26 degrees which is olympic pool temp. Ie you need to swim like your in the Olympics to stay warm. Especially cold in an alpine resort. If your going to have a pool heat it. Or reduce the opening times to save costs and keep the cover on. Changing rooms were dated and needed refurb, steam room has a blocked drain that resulted an a lovely mould smell. Walk to gondala was quite a hike with ski gear. Very steep incline. No bus that a hotel of this calabre should lay on. Beginner piste outside would have been perfect if there was snow. Not there fault. Evening entertainment and food spot on and bar spot on too. Kids area was good but all machines charged a euro. Overall a good trip but could have easily been great with a little investment and attention to details .

The amenities of hotel are nice. The rooms are just barely ok..I could rent a place nearby that are much much bigger and much nicer space for 30 percent less cost and still come party, dance, eat, or relax. For the most part the staff is nice.
